AKKERMAN INGEBRAND FUNERAL HOME – MORA

Rick Koutek, of Mora, passed away on Friday, April 1, 2022 at his home.  He was 70 years old.

MEMORIAL VISITATION will be held from 1:00 – 3:00 pm on Sunday, April 10, 2022 at the Akkerman Ingebrand Funeral Home in Mora.

A TIME OF REMEMBERANCES will be held at 3:00 pm.

MEMORIALS are preferred to the family, in lieu of flowers.

Richard ” Rick” Allen Koutek, of Mora, Minnesota passed away peacefully at home on Friday, April 1, 2022.

Richard was born January 29, 1952 in Saint Paul, Ramsey County, Minnesota to George and Vivian (Faller) Koutek. He grew up on the west end of St Paul, MN the youngest of five siblings. He was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witness and was a publisher at the age of 5. He started working for his Father’s garage when he was 9 years old. He attended Monroe High School, which for 4 years he enjoyed Drama and acting in the school productions. He also competed in Competitive Speaking at Macalester College during his high school years and graduated in 1970. After high school he met and married Teresa Wells and they moved to Rockford IL. To this union 3 children were born. In Rockford, Rick owned his own garage. He managed the city school bus company at the age of 19.

During his free hours Rick played guitar with three other friends forming a band called Persuation which played in Rockford, Chicago and their suburbs. Richard moved back to Blaine, Minnesota in 1987 to work for Consolidated Freight as a diesel mechanic. In 1989 he bought a Snap-On Tool route and in 1991 started a garage in the north Metro called True Tech. He connected with 3 more friends to form a band called Four on the Floor. In 1996 Rick and Teresa went their separate ways.

That same year Rick met Tracy. In 1998 RIck and Tracy were married and Rick became the stepfather of Tracy’s 3 daughters. Rick and Tracy lived in Blaine for a couple years and then moved to the Mora area and built a home in the year 2000. In 2003 Rick moved his business to Mora. Four on the Floor disbanded but that didn’t stop Rick from continuing his love of music and guitar playing. Rick retired from turning wrenches and started Kickin’ Karaoke and DJ. Rick traveled to different venues and entertained at weddings and gatherings.

In 2016 Rick was diagnosed with cancer and underwent radiation treatments for 8 weeks. In 2017 Rick’s cancer was in remission. In 2021 Rick was diagnosed with Progressive Suprauclear Palsy (PSP); an incurable brain condition. Rick enjoyed music, singing and playing guitar, camping and RV-ing. He was always willing to help family and friends. Rick was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend. He will truly be missed by all who knew him and came to know his sense of humor and unforgettable joke telling. His laugh was contagious and his heart filled with love.

He is preceded in death by his parents, and 2 brothers Eugene and Jack.

Rick is survived by his wife Tracy of Mora; his children, Aleesha, Kimberly, and Kurt (Christina) Koutek; step children, Jolene Bauer, Jamie (Jamie) Sparre and Jennie (Terry) Schleicher; grandchildren, Destin, Ashley, Tyeler, Jordan, Quinton, Zachary, Zoie, Ava, Kayla, Wyatt, Amelia and Payten; brother Larry Koutek; sister Susan Pendington; many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

  1. Prayers for comfort Tracy and family. So sorry to hear of your loss today. Knowing the inevitable is hard enough, but the shock and Loss still hits hard. Remember all your good times and good years.

  2. Dear Mom, the love Rick had for you thought me as a young lady what love honor and respect looked like. You were The love of his life. Your love was some kind of wonderful I love you both and will miss Ricks jokes and hugs.

  3. It was an honor to get to know Rick and Tracy. Rick always had a big smile and liked to share fun jokes or stories. The love those two have is strong and it showed every time he talked or looked at Tracy. Strum the guitar strings Rick, play that heavenly music!

The last time i saw my dad I could’nt sleep, turned on my light opened a notebook and wrote him letter for him and read it to him, first sentence was, dad i couldnt remember your face but i could hear your laugh, its not bad dad i know why its because i remember you singing ever since i was like 4 maybe 5 i remember i was proud that you were a famous rockstar and proud you were my dad , first set, u break people gather around you, i thought they wanted your autograph, when people were around you and i couldnt see you, i knew all i had to do is follow your laugh.

    I read him a verse from the bible as i was reading it his opened larger he knew the verse, i told him i will there’s hope, there is going to be a resurrection soon.

  6. You could always make me smile with your infectious personality. You were one special kind of guy Rick. Always willing to help where needed. You will be deeply missed by friends and family. My prayers for all who loved him. May he rest in peace.
