Donald “Corky” Earl Nelson, of Mora, passed away on Tuesday, December 28, 2021 at his son’s home in North Branch, MN. He was 82 years old.
Donald was born on May 15, 1939 in Braham, Minnesota to parents Carl T. and Elsie (Soderstrom) Nelson. He grew up in the rural Ogilvie area, the 4th of 7 children. On July 30, 1960, Don was united in marriage to Marlene J. Eckstrom. They made their home on a farm in the Brunswick area where they raised dairy cattle and crops over the years. Don spent his career as a Block Layer working for several different companies in the twin cities area.
Don loved nature and the outdoors. Frequent family camping and fishing trips were taken to the north shore when the kids were younger. He enjoyed deer hunting and fishing. He was an avid bird watcher and always kept his feeders full for both the birds and deer that visited his yard. Don enjoyed breakfasts at the Crystal with “the guys” and was always ready to share a story to a listening ear. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
Don is preceded in death by his parents, wife Marlene; an infant daughter; sister Donna Stromberg and brothers, Clayton Nelson and Carl Nelson Jr.
He is survived by his children, Daryl (Michelle) of Mora, Dan (Lisa) of North Branch, and Delaine (Brad) Kostreba of Albertville; 8 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren; sisters, Janice (Jack) Gallmeier of White Bear Lake, Judy (Marvin) DeBoer of Ogilvie, and Marlene Beeuwseart of Milaca; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
