Howard Edward Kadlec, of Mora, passed away on Tuesday, December 21, 2021 at his home. He was 87 years old.

Howard was born on July 3, 1934 in Mora, Minnesota to parents Edward and Helen (Roeschlein) Kadlec. He quit school at 15 and went to work milking cows near the twin cities. He returned to Mora and worked at Blaw-Knox on and off for a few years.

On September 5, 1953, Howard was united in marriage to Renee Lind at the First Presbyterian church in Mora. Together the couple made their home on their farm, raising three children, Denise, David, and Steven. Beginning in the 1960’s, Howard began working as an apprentice at Gorham Oien before progressing to foreman and finally supervisor, until his retirement in the early 90’s. Howard farmed for much of his life, raising sheep, cows, and horses.

Howard was never one to be idle. He enjoyed many activities including downhill skiing, snowmobiling, riding motorcycle and atv’s, cutting wood, fishing and waterskiing. He loved deer hunting and trips out west for Elk hunts into the mountains on horseback. Howard owned several small planes and even had his own landing strip and hanger at the farm. He loved being a pilot and flying family to vacation spots around the country. He will be dearly missed.

Howard is preceded in death by his parents, wife Renee, and siblings, Maryann and Harlo.

He is survived by his children, Denise, David (Janet), and Steven; grandchildren, Brent Danielson, Jenny Danielson, Brandon (Susie) Kadlec, Blaine Kadlec, and Bjorn (Jenna) Kadlec; great grandchildren, Rhiannon, Ava, Owen, Blake, Ben, Parker, McKenna, Isabelle, Aubrey, Arlo, Cozette, and Ames; great great grandchildren, Madie, Miley, and Charlie; sister Jean (Gary) Edblad; many other relatives and friends.

  1. I will truly miss this man. Many memories of trips together to Glacier, BWCA, Lake of the Woods, Kabetogama, etc. And, tumbling through Kettle River rapids. Truly a man of adventure.
