Evelyn Nelson, of Braham, passed away on Saturday, September 4, 2021 at her home.  She was 87 years old.

PLEASE NOTE: The family REQUESTS that FACE MASKS be worn at the services for Evelyn. Being aware of the need to keep social distance, and not coming if you are sick or at risk (e.g. elderly, immune-compromised) will help protect everyone.

FUNERAL SERVICE will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, September 9, 2021 at the Braham Ev. Lutheran Church with Rev. Julie Beck officiating.


VISITATION will be held from 4-7 pm on Wednesday, September 8, 2021 at the Braham Ev. Lutheran Church and again 1 hour prior to the service.

INTERMENT will be in the Rice Lake Cemetery in Braham.

MEMORIALS are preferred to the Braham Ev. Lutheran Church.

Evelyn Ida Nelson, of Braham, passed away on Saturday, September 4, 2021 at her home. She was 87 years old.

Evelyn was born on March 26, 1934 in Maple Ridge Township, Minnesota to parents John and Marie (Roeder) Onifer. She was confirmed at the Lewis Lake Covenant church. She attended the Day School through the 8th grade and then graduated from Braham High School in 1952. After high school, Evelyn worked as a telephone operator at the Braham Telephone office for 2 years.

On September 25, 1954, she was united in marriage to Stanley Nelson at the Braham Ev. Lutheran Church. Evelyn worked at the Braham Bank for over 35 years before retiring. Over the years, she volunteered countless hours at the Braham Schools, ARC, and as the Pie Day treasurer.

Evelyn was an active member of the Braham Ev. Lutheran and served as financial secretary, Sunday school teacher, women’s circle, alter guild, quilting circle, and as treasurer for the Sunday school and Women Helping Others. Evelyn enjoyed bowling, golfing, crocheting, and quilting. She will be dearly missed.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents and brother Larry Onifer.

She is survived by her husband Stanley; children, Karen (Stanley) Stelzer, Nancy, Kurt (Lucy), and Duane (Cathy); grandchildren, Shawn, Kristy, Brandon, Anna, Jennifer, Scott, Tim, and Michael; 9 great grandchildren; brother William “Bill” Onifer; sister Irene “Susie” (Ronald) Van Essen; as well as many other relatives and friends.

  2. Evelyn gave of her time and energy to her church for as long as I can recall. She did excellent work and she will be missed. Condolences to the Nelson family. You all have a special place in our hearts.

  3. When you visited the family you were always so welcomed. Evelyn was a big part of that always doing what she can making the visits so fun at family gathering. Family/friends meant so much to Evie , she will be so missed. My thoughts/prayers are with the whole Nelson family.

  4. Evie was a woman of grace. She mentored me through my professional and spiritual journey. I will miss her deeply. Prayers of comfort for the family.

  5. Not many work hard AND meek. How lucky we are to have had Evelyn in our community. She will be greatly missed. God is good!
