Dolores Arlene Peterson, of Maplewood, formerly of Mora, passed away on Monday, August 9, 2021 at Ecumen Lakeview Commons. She was 92 years old.

Dolores was born in Bismarck, North Dakota on December 4, 1928 to parents Wayne and Martha Opal (Peterson) DeWitt. She grew up in Hermosa, South Dakota until 1938 when the family moved to a farm near Mora. She attended Ogilvie High School with the graduating class of 1947. On January 4, 1947 Dolores was united in marriage to Irving “Dick” Peterson at the St. Paul Lutheran Church when it was in Mora. They were blessed with 3 children. They made their home in Mora until 1965 when they moved to Cottage Grove. In 1967 their eldest son Gary was killed while serving in Vietnam. They returned to Mora in 1971. Over the years, Dolores worked as a nanny for a Mora teacher as well as a cashier and bookkeeper for the National T store, Co- Op, and Craft store in Mora. After Dick’s death in 1996, Dolores continued to live in Mora until 2018 when she moved into the Lakeview Assisted Living in Maplewood to be closer to her children.

Dolores enjoyed her many hobbies of reading, putting together jigsaw puzzles, crocheting dolls, collecting bottles and salt and pepper shakers, and watching the MN Vikings play. On the farm she raised a huge garden and canned countless jars of pickles (Dick’s favorite) and tomatoes. She and Dick loved going to dances and doting on their grandchildren. In her younger years, she wrote the township social events column for the Mora newspaper. Dolores was a life time member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ogilvie. She will be dearly missed by her loving family and friends.

Dolores is preceded in death by her parents, husband Dick, son Gary, and brother Duane (Dorothy) DeWitt.

She is survived by her children, Janet (German) Ruiz and Ronald (Carol Adamietz) Peterson; grandsons, Paul (Heather) Ruiz, Brian Ruiz, Nathan (Jessie) Peterson, Mark (Crystal) Peterson; great grandchildren, Kyla, Madison, and Logan Peterson, Lauren and Violet Ruiz; brother Milan (Mary) DeWitt; sister Diane (Del) Turnacliff; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
