Violet Margaret Sanders was born on Labor Day, September 6, 1920 in Comfort Township to Jonas Holmstrom and Martha (Johnson) Holmstrom of Mora, MN. Violet attended country school in Comfort Township and for a brief period of 8th grade she attended Jefferson Junior High in Minneapolis.
After she left home, she worked various jobs until she met and married Allen Sanders. They were married on June 1, 1941 in Mora. After the attack on Pearl Harbor in December 1941, when Allen entered the armed forces, Violet followed him to Camp Roberts in California and Fort Bragg in North Carolina, where she worked on base at each location.
When Allen was deployed to Europe in early 1942, Violet returned to Minneapolis where she worked to save money. This allowed them to purchase a farm north of Mora, after the war, in Hillman Township. They were blessed with 6 children. Violet was a household management engineer and an assistant farm worker on the dairy farm until Allen passed in 1985. After that, Violet remained on the farm until moving into an apartment in Mora with, her eldest daughter, Beverly in 2014. Violet had a love for gardening, crossword puzzles, soap operas, and cookies (especially the iced oatmeal ones). She had a wonderful, caring heart and loved spending time with family.
She remained in town with Bev until her death and got her wings on December 9, 2020 at the age of 100 years, 3 months and 3 days old. A special thanks to St. Croix Hospice, Mikayla, and Devale.
