Vernon Smith, of Mora, passed away on Saturday, November 14, 2020 at his home. He was 74 years old.
PUBLIC GATHERING OF FAMILY AND FRIENDS will be held from 1:00-3:00 p.m. on Friday, November 20, 2020 at the Akkerman Ingebrand Funeral Home in Mora.
GRAVESIDE SERVICE & INTERMENT will be at the Fish Lake Cemetery in Mora.
PLEASE NOTE: Due to CDC recommendations, FACE MASKS are strongly encouraged at the services for Vernon. Being aware of the need to keep social distance, and not coming if you are sick or at risk (e.g. elderly, immune-compromised) will help protect everyone. Vernon E. Smith, of Mora, passed away on Saturday, November 14, 2020 at his home. He was 74 years old.
Vernon was born on August 16, 1946 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to parents Eugene and Helen (Becker) smith. He grew up Columbia Heights, graduating from Columbia Heights High School in 1964. He worked with his father at the Rye Crisp warehouse after high school before taking a job with the Postal Service in 1967. He worked as a mail carrier for the St. Paul and Roseville area post office until being injured at work in 1977 forced his retirement.
On January 6, 1968, Vernon was united in marriage to Jerri Leaser. They were blessed with three sons before the marriage later dissolved.
Vernon lived in Columbia Heights for most of his life, before spending in final years in Mora near his son. Vernon enjoyed trips to the casinos, drinking coffee, and visiting with friends and neighbors. He will be missed.
Vernon is preceded in death by his parents, and sister Adele Schoen.
He is survived by his children, David (Kathy Dickman), Tim (Lana), and Daniel; grandchildren, Brandon and Gabby Smith; former wife Jerri Smith; many other relatives and friends.
