Pierre Antoine Santelé, of Mora, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, October 5, 2020. He was 90 years old.
Pierre was born November 16, 1929 in Lauwe, Belgium to Achiele and Valentine (Vanlerberghe) Santelé. When he was 11 years old, World War II began and he and his family survived the war. After the war, he served in the Belgian Armed Forces for two years. He then pursued training in horticulture which he used to start his own tobacco factory. For many years, he sold tobacco at the open market in Brussels Square and never missed a Sunday.
In 1969, he moved his family including three sons to America to begin a new venture and later was proud to become an American citizen. Pierre was a true entrepreneur and was never afraid to take a risk.
His next endeavor brought him, and his wife Roxanne, to Las Vegas, NV. In Las Vegas, they started a wrought iron business which he ran until they returned to Minnesota with their three children in 1996. Pierre retired and spent his time gardening, logging, and supporting Roxanne with her businesses especially at the Crazy Ladies House. He spent many hours greeting people, riding in parades, and promoting the business. Pierre loved to tell a good story or a funny joke, and he always knew how to bring out a smile in people. He will truly be missed by all who knew him.
Pierre is preceded in death by his parents, and brothers, Antoine and Joseph Santelé.
He is survived by his wife Roxanne; children, Lieven (Trudy), Stephen (Mary Jane), Chris (Marianne), Michelle (Bill) Lewin, Joshua, and Alexia (Alex) Fox; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; siblings, Mia VanMarcke, Lucien Santelé, Godelieve Delier, Francoise Brocard, and Simonne Corne; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
