AKKERMAN INGEBRAND FUNERAL HOME – MORA

Thelma Johnson, of Mora, passed away on Wednesday, January 15, 2020 at St. Clare’s Living Community.  She was 90 years old.

MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 15, 2020 at the Calvary Lutheran Church in Mora with Pastor Dean Oelfke officiating.

MEMORIAL VISITATION will be held one hour prior to the service.

Thelma Ingrid (Jensen) Johnson passed away on January 15, 2020 at St. Clare’s Living Community in Mora. She was 90 years old.

Thelma Ingrid Johnson was born on June 18, 1929 in Atlantic, Iowa to Jens P. and Elna Sofie (Hansen) Jensen. She grew up on the family farm in Exira, Iowa and Mora, Minnesota the 4th of 7 siblings. She attended schools in Iowa and Mora graduating in 1946. After high school she went to St. Cloud Teachers College for 2 years. She taught school from 1948-1966 beginning at Sandstone, MN for 2 years, St. Louis Park, MN for 1 year and Breckenridge, MN for 7 years. She then attended the Universities in Duluth, Moorhead and Fullerton CA.

She met Don Johnson from Fort Ransom, ND on a college bus tour and they were married on June 9, 1957 in Breckenridge, Minnesota. From 1957-59 she taught in Duluth, Minnesota before moving to La Habra, California where she taught from 1959 to 1966.

In 1966 they adopted their first child, Elna Therese, and in 1970 they adopted their second child, Marshall Abner. In 1998 they moved to Mora, MN; then to Aitkin in 2016 and back to Mora in 2017.

Thelma was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church in Duluth, Emanuel Lutheran Church in La Habra CA and Calvary Lutheran Church in Mora.. She served as President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer of the Women’s Group. She was a Bible Study Leader and a Circle Leader. She was also a member of the Dala Heritage Club in Mora, and Sons of Norway in CA and MN.

Thelma was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She will be missed by family and friends

She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Mabel Eddy; brothers Alvin and Paul Jensen; sisters-in-law Dorothy and LaVonne Jensen; brothers-in-law Roy Wendberg, Neale Eddy and a nephew Richard Jensen.

She is survived by her husband Don Johnson of Mora, daughter Elna (Vince) Drake of Lake Point, Utah; son Marshall Johnson of Horizon City, TX; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; brothers Floyd (Marilyn) Jensen, Norman (Doris) Jensen and sister Sonja (Archie) Zellman all of Mora; plus several nieces and nephews.

    My condolences to you all. Thelma’s passing is a heart felt loss to us all. She was always a pleasant, thoughtful and kind aunt. We’ll miss her.
