Kathleen “Kathy” Kawalek, of Eagan, formerly of Mora, passed away on Tuesday, August 20, 2019 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in St. Paul. She was 76 years old.
FUNERAL SERVICE will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, August 27, 2019 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Fr. Derek Weichmann officiating.
VISITATION will be held from 4:00-7:00 pm on Monday, August 26, 2019 at the Akkerman Ingebrand Funeral Home and 1 hour prior to the service at the church.
INTERMENT will be in the Oakwood Cemetery in Mora.
Kathleen “Kathy” Jeanne Kawalek, of Eagan, MN, formerly of Mora, passed away on Tuesday, August 20, 2019 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in St. Paul. She was 76 years old.
Kathy was born on October 20, 1942 in St. Paul, MN to parents Harry and Jeanne (Buril) Rogers. She grew up in the South St. Anthony Park area of St. Paul. She came from a large family; the oldest of 10 children. After high school she attended college in Little Falls, MN graduating with a nursing degree. She worked for one year as an RN at Midway Hospital in St. Paul before marrying David Kawalek in 1964, whom she met through a mutual friend while in college. Kathy and David lived in Mora where David farmed and eventually operated Kawalek Trucking. To this union three daughters were born.
Kathy was an important member of the farm and Kawalek Trucking team as the bookkeeper. She also brought food to the workers in the field and other miscellaneous jobs as needed. In addition, she continued her schooling and obtained a specialization as a Certified Critical Care Nurse though the American Association of Critical Care Nurses. She worked as a nurse at the Cambridge Hospital for 44 years, the last 20 years as the head nurse in intensive care.
Kathy and David traveled to many states including Hawaii, Mexico, Texas and the Southern Caribbean. They also had 3 big Canadian fishing trips. They were married for 40 years before David passed away in December of 2004. Kathy was an avid quilter, making quilts with her church group and donating them to families in need as a way to provide comfort during difficult times. She also enjoyed gardening and she always had a “huge” vegetable garden and flower garden with 18 rose bushes. In 2018, she moved into The Commons on Marice to be closer to her daughters.
Kathy was preceded in death by her parents; husband David; and brother Richard Rogers.
She is survived by her daughters, Ann (Frank) Dropps, Cheryl (John) Ohmann and Amy (Eric) Langworthy; grandchildren, Kirstin (Tom) Petty, Kourtney Dropps, Kameron Dropps, Kwinton Dropps, Sarah Ohmann, Austin Ohmann, Zeth Langworthy and Ashton Langworthy; 3 great grandchildren, Mason, Carson and Jade Petty; siblings, Kenneth (Judy) Rogers, Joseph (Marilou) Rogers, Michael Rogers, Cecilia (Kenneth) Snook, James (Ann) Rogers, Mary Rardin, Thomas Rogers and Arthur (Sherie) Rogers; brothers-in-law Rick (Connie) Kawalek and Gary (Judy) Kawalek; plus many nieces and nephews.
