Catherine Anne (Mork) Kordahl died on June 28, 2019. She was 96 years old.

Catherine Kordahl was born on April 20, 1923 near Mora, MN to Edgar and Julia Mork. She had one brother, Clifford, and was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She graduated from Mora High School in 1941. Because of World War II, immediately upon graduation she started working at Twin Cities Ordinance Plant inspecting cartridges and then telescope lenses at Honeywell. Catherine began attending Augsburg College in 1945 where she met her future husband, Axel Kordahl, at the Lutheran Free Church Seminary. They were married on October 12, 1951 and served in several Lutheran parishes in North Dakota and Minnesota. In 1981, they retired and moved to Mora where they joined Calvary Lutheran Church. Axel died in April 2006, while Catherine continued to live in Mora until she moved to Fair Meadow Nursing Home in Fertile, MN in early 2016.

Catherine enjoyed reading, cooking, and crafts. Although her vision was poor as she aged, she kept busy at Fair Meadow with church, exercising, reading groups, and attending special musical events. Catherine was a wonderful, gracious host, and she always welcomed people into her home. As a true extrovert, she was happiest surrounded by family and friends.

As mentioned, Catherine was preceded in death by her husband, Axel, and also by her brother and sister-in-law, Clifford and Edna, and her parents.

She is survived by daughters, Gloria (Paul) Kaste of Fertile, MN and Joy Ridgley of Minneapolis, MN. Gloria and Joy’s birth mother, Alice, and their brother, John, are waiting in heaven. She is also survived by daughters Rebecca Kordahl (Robin Boulton) of Madison, WI; Judith Kordahl (James Fitzsimmons) of Alexandria, VA; and son, Joel (Judy) Kordahl of Duluth, MN. Grandchildren include Gretchen (Rawleigh) White of Powell Butte, OR; Garth (Colleen) Kaste of Fertile, MN; Karl (Ann) Kaste of Apple Valley, MN; Berit Fitzsimmons of San Francisco, CA; Jackson Fitzsimmons of Alexandria, VA; Alex Kordahl of Fargo, ND; and Erik Kordahl of Duluth, MN. Great grandchildren include Cynthia and Grant Kaste; Cora Leigh and Colin White; and Theodore, Norah, and Vivienne Kaste. Catherine is also survived by many other relatives and friends.

  1. The heart is never ready to say goodbye. May you find comfort in knowing that Catherine is now in the place that she spent her lifetime preparing to go to. My deepest sympathy to you all.

  2. Catherine will be missed by all those she touched. A smile comes to my face when I think of her enthusiasm for people – always caring more for the other person. She lived a life of serving others and has left a footprint here on earth. There is no doubt she is reunited with those who passed before her and with the Lord she fervently served.
    God’s peace to you.
    Amy Rantala and Family
