Susan Grace Sande, of Mora, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, June 26, 2019. She was 71 years old.

Susan was born February 25, 1948 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to parents George and Beatrice (Reinen) Wilkum. She was united in marriage to Lawrence “Toby” Sande on June 2, 1989 in Milwaukee. In 1990, they moved to Mora to build their dream retirement home. While their home was being built, they lived for a year with Toby’s mother Ann in Mora.

Susan had various jobs prior to working as the front desk receptionist and scheduler at the Mora FirstLight Clinic, from where she retired in 2012. In retirement, Susan enjoyed time spent at home cooking and baking, and she always made sure Toby’s cookie jar was full of fresh cookies. She loved all animals, great and small, especially her dog Tessie, other past pets and all of the cats that have graced the Sande cabin. She enjoyed visits from her daughter and always created special memories of their times together. One of Susan’s greatest joys was spending time with her grandchildren, watching them grow and delighting in their accomplishments. Susan loved to entertain and enjoyed hosting gatherings and parties for her family and friends. Most of all, Susan loved doing what she did best…spending the day shopping with her friends and going out for lunch.

When her health began to decline and the days of shopping weren’t possible any more, Susan enjoyed keeping in touch with family and friends on social media and resting in her favorite chair at home. She will be dearly missed.

Susan is preceded in death by her parents.

She is survived by her loving husband Toby; daughter Kelly (Kevin) Hayes; stepsons, Daniel (Lisa) Sande, David (Beth) Sande, and Dale (Jen) Sande; 9 grandchildren: Arianna, Sara, Jack, Olivia, Andrew, Michael, Nathan, Zoe and Zenna Sande; brother Raymond Wilkum; sister Pat (Don) Prom; sister-in-law Nancy Thomas; and many other relatives and friends.
