Ronald Carl Nelson, of Mora, Minnesota, passed away on January 5, 2019 at his home with his family by his side. He was 68 years old.

Ron was born August 9, 1950 at Memorial Hospital in Milaca, Minnesota to Carl Elmer and Margaret (Carlson) Nelson. He graduated from Mora High School in 1968. He met Kathy Landwehr in St. Cloud and they were married on July 30, 1971. Ron and Kathy resided in Mora and in 1984 adopted their little girl Amanda.

He attended St. Cloud Vocational School, graduating with a Sales Management degree. He worked at National Bushing in St. Cloud for a year before returning to Mora to become the outside salesman for Mora National Bushing. For several years he was a motivational speaker at sales meetings for National Bushing, vocational schools, and other organizations. Ron was an active member of the Mora Lions Club for 20 years. He served as president, worked the Lions’ soup stop for the Vasaloppet, and the Lion’s booth at the fair. He also earned several top salesman awards during his career. He retired from work on May 6, 2016.

Ron’s passion in life was to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with as many people as possible. He was very active with his church, serving as board member, youth group leader, and adult Sunday school teacher. He enjoyed the friendship and fellowship that grew in his accountability group. Ron was a greeter, but not just a greeter at church, he was the handshake, the warm hello and the kind hug that endeared Ron to everyone whom he met. Ron was the friend to the stranger and the supporter to the friend.

Many summers were enjoyed camping on the road, until Ron and Kathy found their home away from home on the shores of Leech Lake. Ron enjoyed farming, deer hunting, fishing, and spending time with friends and family, especially his grandchildren, Joshua, Troy and Bridget.

He was preceded in death by his parents; C. Elmer and Margaret.

He is survived by his wife Kathy; daughter Mandy; and grandchildren Joshua, Troy, and Bridget; sister Judy (Rod) Roberts; many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Remember, Do Good Things.

  15. I will always remember Uncle Ron for his true friendship with Christ. Listening to him give the blessing at every holiday meal, wedding, and family event always moved me to tears. I recall being a child and hearing Uncle Ron talk to God, and I will never forget that he was the person who showed me the true meaning of prayer. His relationship with The Lord was a testament. I can hear God saying, “well done, good and faithful servant”.
