Drew Hakala, of Hackensack, MN passed away on Friday, December 28, 2018 at Unity Hospital in Fridley.  He was 61 years old.

MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, January 5, 2019 at the Braham Ev. Covenant Church with Rev. Steve Jennisch officiating.

MEMORIAL VISITATION will be held 1 hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.

Drew Alan Hakala passed away on Friday, December 28, 2018 at Unity Hospital in Fridley, Minnesota at the age of 61.

He was born to parents Jeanette Alice (Herbster) and Toivo William Hakala on September 3rd, 1957 in Minneapolis, Minnesota.  He was the youngest of five children. He grew up in NE Minneapolis and was confirmed at Gustavus Adolphus Lutheran church in NE Minneapolis.  He graduated from Edison High School and then went on to Dunwoody Technical School to learn a trade in auto body.

Drew worked for Rosedale Chevrolet as an auto body man for most of his career retiring early due to health issues.  About fifteen years ago he moved up to the family cabin on Woman Lake in Longville/Hackensack, Minnesota improving and expanding the cabin over many years making it his own.  The log sauna was hand built with his father and was enjoyed by many friends and family over the years.

He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing and hunting with his faithful dog Gus and spending time with good friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Muriel Jeanne (Townsend).

Drew is survived by brothers Keith Donald Hakala, William John Hakala and Gary Thomas Hakala and his nieces and nephews; Julie Marie Hakala (Gujer), Holly Jeanne Townsend (Nelson), Jody Noel Hakala (Hakala-Ristow), Amanda Jean Hakala (Janke), Jessica Maria Hakala, Jason Keith Hakala, Wayne Travis Townsend and William Johann Hakala as well as grand-nieces and grand-nephews.

  1. Known Drew for quite a few years but not well. I am friends with his close friend Robert Hines. Drew was so lucky to have a friend like Bob to help him in many ways throughout the years. Im sure Bob added many years to Drews life. And isn’t that what we all need in a friend? RIP Drew.
