Irvin Andrew Sanders, of New Hope, formerly of Mora, passed away on Thursday, November 1, 2018 at the St. Therese Home in New Hope, MN. He was 89 years old.

Irvin was born on August 15, 1929 in McGregor, Minnesota to parents Mark and Ramona (Rostberg) Sanders. He was the oldest of five children. As a child he grew up in Kroschel, helping his grandparents on their farm. In May of 1951, Irvin entered the United States Army. He served overseas in the Korean War until his honorable discharge in April of 1953.

Irvin met his soul mate, Muriel Youngquist, and they married on April 3, 1954 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Brunswick. To this union two children were born. They lived in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota where they raised their family. Irvin retired from Brinks Security, where he spent his career as an armored truck driver, and the couple moved to Brunswick for the remainder of their retirement. Irvin and Muriel were happily married for 55 years when Muriel passed away in December of 2009. With declining health, Irvin moved to the St. Therese Home in New Hope to be closer to his family. He enjoyed his last year there meeting the staff and residents and having frequent visits from his children and grandchildren.

Irvin loved woodworking and spent hours in his shop making birdhouses and planter boxes. He also enjoyed mowing his lawn and keeping his home and yard meticulous. Irvin loved music, especially classic country, bluegrass, and big band songs. He was a talented singer and played the Harmonica. He enjoyed sharing his love of music with kids, grandkids, and friends. Irvin left an impression on everyone he met and he will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Muriel, sisters, Ann Maeder, Donna Meredith,
and Ellie Tolefson.

Irvin is survived by his daughter Ann; son John; grandchildren Michael Biondo (Casey Zych) and Stephanie Biondo (Mike Morrissey); sister Ramona (Bernie) Benson; plus many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

  1. To Irvin’s Family:

We wish to send our sincere condolences and prayers in the loss of your Father and Grandfather. I grew up for a few short years, near Muriel’s family, in Ogilvie, and enjoyed visiting with Irvin and Muriel at the Youngquist Family reunions held annually, usually in St. Peter or at Minnehaha Park. Muriel was my cousin. With my deepest sympathy from our family, with love to all, from
