Memorials are preferred to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.

Nicole Marie Hathaway, age 48, died by suicide on Friday, July 27, 2018 at her home in Burnsville, MN. She carried the heavy burden of addiction and depression, but we remember her as a passionate mother, teacher, friend, and ‘nana’. We wish her mind would have allowed her to perceive all of the good in her and around her.

Nicole was born Nicole Marie Kahn on September 30, 1969 and attended the University of Minnesota and earned a Juris Doctor from William Mitchell School of Law. She was an active member in the gymnastics community where she coached for over two decades. Nicole enjoyed homeschooling her children, scrapbooking, gardening, and preparing meals for her family, especially over birthdays and holidays.

She is preceded in death by her parents William Kahn and Collette Kahn and her brother Vincent Kahn.

She is survived by sister Lisa (Jon) Whitney, daughters Ciara Mickler and Ryenne Hathaway, sons Blake Hathaway, James Hathaway and Elijah Hathaway, and two grandchildren.

  1. So sorry to hear of Nikki’s death. I went to high school with Nikki in Cloquet and my older brother, John, did gymnastics with her for a couple years. My thoughts are with your family at this difficult time.

  2. So sorry to hear of this :-( I really enjoyed having her mom for a teacher. Many thoughts and prayers for her family through this difficult time.

  3. Nicole was always full of energy and willing to bend over backward for anyone. She cared and would have moved mountains for her children. She was a beautiful person and will be missed.

  4. To the family,

Niki and I had attended middle school and high school together. I remember her as being very friendly, smart, and part of the Pom Pom Squad.

  5. We are so sorry for your loss of your sister and mother….Nikki graduated with our daughter Cheryl and was on the dance line with her. We remember her as a lively personality that will be missed. We are so sorry for your loss….

  6. I am so incredibly sorry for Nicole’s passing. We were friends from church but hadn’t seen each other in a couple years. Her children were her life. My heart is breaking for her kids. I’m praying for her family as they mourn this beautiful person.

  7. I knew Nicole from the Lakeville baseball fields. She was a tireless fan and mother. My heart and prayers go out to all her family. I’m so sorry for your loss.

  8. We are so saddened to hear about Nicole. She was so intelligent and inquisitive! We had some wonderful, intimate faith and family talks on our horseback rides. She loved her family more than anything. She was a fantastic gymnastics coach, encouraging and bringing fun and joy to the sport! She nicknamed our daughter
“Smashley”! I miss her and wish I would have been more of an encourager when we grew apart several years ago. She has blessed and encouraged so many. She has now entered a place with “no more death, or sorrow or crying or pain.” (Rev 21:4). She knew where she was going. May you be strengthened by the wonderful memories of such a beautiful and passionate mother who made a difference in others. Know she is with you, and that you have a part of her within you. You make her proud! May God bless your healing and give you comfort and peace through all your pain. We want to respect your privacy but if in anyway we can help or lighten your burden, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

  9. This is very sad news and I pray for the family to find peace and have the ability to move forward. I don’t know any of you personally. My (our connection) is that my daughter Gabbie swims for the Sea Devils against Reyenne’s team the South Metro Storm. Please know Reyenne that the swim community will be sending lots of prayers your way!! I know you have a lot of great things happening and I hope you have the strength to push forward. Know that your mom will be cheering you on from above!! We wish you luck and please make sure to reach out to the people around you … and remember that even strangers are willing to help if they know you are in need. May God Bless you.
