Carolyn Mae Swanson, of North Branch, formerly of Minneapolis and Braham, passed away on Monday, July 23, 2018 at Ecumen in North Branch. She was 96 years old.

Carolyn was born on February 28, 1922 in Braham, Minnesota to parents Charlie and Hilda (Gerdin) Swanson. She was the second child and only girl, of four children. In 1925, the family moved to the Gerdin farm in Maple Ridge Township where they resided until a brief move to Duluth in 1931. They returned to the farm in 1932 until a final move to the Swanson farm in Maple Ridge in 1935. Carolyn and her brother Ken attended classes together at the Hiawatha Country School through the eighth grade. They went on to study together at Braham High School, graduating in 1939.

Shortly after graduation, Carolyn packed up and left for the big city. She worked as a housekeeper for a family in Minneapolis and boarded with them. Carolyn’s next move was to her own apartment in the city. She began her life long career working for Honeywell. After her father passed away in 1955, she moved in to care for her mother until she too passed away in 1996, at the age of 103. Carolyn retired from Honeywell in 1983. She lived in a condo in South Minneapolis for many years until her declining health dictated that she move to a care center and closer to family. She spent her final years at Ecumen in North Branch.

Over the years Carolyn found enjoyment in playing the accordion and piano, shopping, playing board games and bingo, volunteering at her church, spending time with family and friends, reading, and cooking up countless delicious meals.

Carolyn is preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Charles Howard and William Swanson.

She is survived by her brother Kenneth Swanson of Cambridge, and many loving nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
