Arlen Carl Ellingson, of Mora, MN, passed away on April 28, 2018 at his home after being on hospice since February 9th. He was 73 years old.

Arlen was born on May 29, 1944 in Red Wing, MN to Leonard and Myrtle (Jacobson) Ellingson. He was the 8th of their 9 children. He attended school briefly at St. Paul Park until the family moved to Hastings, MN where he resumed and completed his schooling. After high school Arlen had numerous jobs until he landed a job at the Hastings Elevator where he worked for many years. During this time he met the love of his life, Carol Nestrud, whom he married in 1969. They had four sons together; Paul, twins Dale and David, and Dennis. Unfortunately the twins were premature and only lived for a day. Then in 1973 they moved to the Mora area where their daughter Denice was born. After a few brief jobs Arlen got a job at Fingerhut where he was content to stay until it’s closing in 2001.

Arlen was a good provider for his family and loved them very much. Over the years he spent time with the boys’ deer hunting, camping and fishing (which included the whole family). He also loved working in the wood shop with Carol making benches, bean bag games, or peg boards, etc. He also had a love for trains, and spent many hours in his “depot” that his family built for him a few years ago.

Arlen was known for his wit and sense of humor which he kept up until the day he died. We will miss him greatly, but are happy he is finally home and at peace.

Arlen was preceded in death by his parents; step father Ferdinand Hubley; sons, Dale and David; brothers, Melvin (Lee) and Donald (Dorothy); sisters, Agnus (David) Berger and Katheren Peterson; brother-in-law Marvin Rapp; and son-in-law Michael LaPlant.

He is survived by his wife Carol; children Paul (Marianne) Ellingson; Dennis Ellingson, and Denice LaPlant (Mark); grandchildren Stephanie (Jon) Buchanan, Jennifer Dahlberg, Kelly Dahlberg, Bryan Dahlberg, Jeffery Ellingson, and Tristen Ellingson; 7 great grandchildren; siblings, Lenora Rapp, JoAnne (Jeff) Wagnon, Robert (Phyllis) Ellingson, Leonard (Kris) Ellingson; brother-in-law Ronald “Rocky” Peterson; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
