Donald Wayne Butler of Sturgeon Lake, Minnesota, passed away on February 12, 2018 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Duluth. He was 80 years old.

Don was born on January 12, 1938 in St. Paul, Minnesota to John and Kathleen (Arthur) Butler. He was the second of three siblings. Don grew up in Robbinsdale, graduating from Robbinsdale High School. His memories of school were often talked about. After graduation, Don joined the Navy. He was honorably discharged due to an accident.

Don enrolled at Brown Institute of Broadcasting and a rewarding career of radio and TV broadcasting followed. From Minnesota to North Dakota and then Oregon, his voice and talent for good music followed him.

In May of 1980 he married the love of his life Ellie. Don and Ellie spent 35 wonderful years together. Don welcomed Ellie’s children as his own. Family gatherings were very special to him with lots of laughter and discussions at the table. He put God first in his life accepting Jesus as his Lord and Savior at age 25.

After retiring from broadcasting, Don embraced his love of old cars. His wife would come home and find car parts strewn all over the house. But finally he found “the car”; a 1930 Model A. Ellie and Don picked this gem up in Saco, Montana and he has been working on it ever since. This car was shown with pride in many parades.

Don had a passion for golf. He had a natural swing and loved to play. He was a caddie and got “tips” from a local pro and passed them on to his family. Donald was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He will be deeply missed.

He is preceded in death by his parents; and wife Elfreida.

Survived by children, Donald R. Butler of OR, Mark Swenson of Eagle, WI, Mary (Carl) Nordquist of Mora, MN; grandchildren, Eric (Molly) Nordquist, Jeremiah (Jill) Pitman, Anna Pitman, Carter Swenson; great grandchildren, Jace, Nolan, Ava, Stella and Haley Mae; brother John (Sharron) Butler of Zimmerman, MN, sister Kathy Swaggert of Watertown, MN; brothers and sisters-in-law, Carl (Jennette) Kent of Aitkin, MN, Lorraine Kent of Mora, MN, Gertrude (Joel) Carlson of Mora, MN, Harry (Jennifer) Kent of Farmington, MN, Lenore (Donald) Martens of Mora, MN; many nieces nephews, cousins and friends.
