Howard “Bud” Nelson, of Braham, MN died on Thursday, January 4, 2018 at Rosewood Senior Living in Cambridge. He was 85 years old.
FUNERAL SERVICE will be held on Tuesday, January 9th at 11:00 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Brunswick with Rev. Sierra Westerman officiating.
VISITATION will be on Monday, January 8th from 5:00-7:00 p.m.; plus one hour prior to the funeral on Tuesday ALL AT THE CHURCH.
INTERMENT will be at Rice Lake Cemetery.
Howard “Bud” Bernard Nelson passed on to his Lord and Savior on Thursday, January 4, 2018 at the Rosewood Assisted Living Facility in Cambridge, MN. He was 85 years old.
Howard, lovingly known as Bud, was born at home in Gordonsville, MN to John and Ovedia (Westrum) Nelson on July 22, 1932. He attended elementary school in Gordonsville and graduated from Northwood High School in Iowa in 1950. He entered military service into the U.S. Army in June of 1953 and achieved the rank of Corporal. He was stationed in Korea and received an honorable discharge in May of 1955.
Bud married Rosalyn Monnahan on January 18, 1956. They farmed in Gordonsville, MN for 4 years and then moved to Braham, MN in 1960. He continued farming until his retirement. Bud worked hard as a farmer and took pride in being an excellent steward of his land. He loved to fish and travel; along with spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents John and Ovedia Nelson; mother and father-in-law Lewis and Ellen Monnahan; brothers-in-law Carlyle Trytten, Richard Clark, Leon Kingsbury and Ronald Knutson; sister-in-law Tootie Nelson and Geraldine Kingsbury.
Bud is survived by his wife of 62 years Rosalyn; children Mary (Rick) Stromberg of Ogilvie, Marty Nelson of Mora (friend, Jody Anderson), and Amy (Timothy) Gamble of Mora; grandchildren, Eric Stromberg (Heather), Cheerie Smith (Josh), Travis Stromberg (Kathy), Joshua Nelson (Christina), Jeremiah Nelson (Ashley), Zachariah Nelson (Tyffani), Elijah Nelson, Matthew Gamble (Molly) and Cody Gamble (Sarah), DJ Loger; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are his siblings, Carla Trytten of Gregory, SD, Lloyd Nelson of Devils Lake, ND, Larry Nelson (Linda), James Nelson (Gladys) and Linda Skramstad (Alan) all of Mora; sisters-in-law Michaela Clark, Nancy Beighley (Roy), Sharon Rosen (Ole), Linda Peterson (Gordon), Randi Monnahan-Chicos (Steven) and Denise Knutson all from southern MN and northern Iowa; plus several nieces and nephews.
