Marie Christena Davis died on Wednesday, December 13, 2017 at Elmhurst Commons in Braham, MN. She was 96 years old.

Marie was born February 2, 1921 to Henry and Linda (Stahl) Piescher in Elgin Township, Wabasha County, Minnesota. In March 1923 she moved with her parents to Hillman Township in Kanabec County, where she grew up, attending a one-room school and going to Sunday School at the Hillman Baptist Church. From early on she helped with household chores and farm work, becoming excellent at cooking and baking.

In August, 1946 she married Elmer Davis and they operated their farm in Pomroy Township until 1972 when they sold it and built a country home on 20 acres. Marie assisted Elmer in his carpenter work until they retired in 1984. She loved to fish and enjoyed gardening and flowers; also feeding the many birds and deer around their yard. In 1988 they sold their home and moved to an apartment and the Dala House in Mora. In 2012 Marie moved to the Elmhurst Commons in Braham.

She turned out an endless array of crocheted items. Her hands were never idle. She loved to travel. She and Elmer traveled in 48 of the 50 states, also in most of the Canadian provinces and through the Caribbean to Venezuela.

In 1955 Marie was baptized and joined the First Presbyterian Church in Mora.

Marie was preceded in death by her parents; husband Elmer (1999); sisters Dorothy Graber and Nadine Wolford; and brother Louis Piescher.

She is survived by many nieces and nephews, plus great nieces and nephews.

  1. Elmer and Marie remodeled our home in 1979. Whenever Northern Lights Bluegrass played music at Elmhurst Commons Marie and I would set and visit. I saw her in November but don;t think she really knew who I was. Our condolences to the family.

  2. What a Lady! She did everything! She was so kind to everyone and loved going on out door walks in the summer. We will miss her at Elmhurst Commons. Thank you for bringing her here. Staff

  3. We would like to express our deepest sympathy. May those precious memories be foremost in your hearts and minds during this difficult time.
