Rosa Marie Swanson, of Grasston, passed away on Thursday, November 16, 2017 at Mercy Hospital in Coon Rapids. She was 81 years old.
Rosa was born on December 9, 1935 in Hinckley, Minnesota to parents Adolph and Dora (Schlafle) Kroschel. The youngest of 4 children, Rosa attended the Kroschel County School where her mother was the teacher. She then attended Hinckley High School, graduating in 1953. After high school, Rosa moved to Minneapolis where she rented a room from Ronald’s mother. When Ron pulled up to the house on his Harley motorcycle, Rosa was smitten. Rosa and Ronald were united in marriage on January 21, 1955 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Kroschel. Rosa and Ron lived in Soderville when they were blessed with two daughters. In 1974, the family moved to their farm in Grasston where Rosa worked side by side with Ron, milking cows, feeding calves, and helping with all the farm chores. She was proud to have been named the Pine County Farm Woman of the year. Rosa loved her animals; especially the horses she had over the years and the countless dogs she rescued and strays she lovingly brought into her home.
From the mid 1980’s until 2005, Rosa worked as a postal clerk in the Grasston Post Office. She enjoyed shopping trips to the Mall of America with her sister Dorine and going to plays and concerts with her daughters; getting to experiencing music from famous musicians like Pavarotti and Yo-Yo Ma. Rosa loved the trips she and Ron took to Montana. She will be dearly missed.
Rosa is preceded in death by her parents, brother Hugo Kroschel, and sister Dorine Hedtke.
She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Ron; daughters, Rhonda Swanson and Brenda (Harley Zimmer) Swanson; brother Robert Kroschel; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
