Doris Edith Allen Krugen passed away at age 92 on November 12, 2017, at GracePointe Crossing West Gables in Cambridge, Minnesota.
Doris was born to William and Edith (Erickson) Adamson on August 27, 1925, in Monterey, Minnesota. She was the fourth of six children. She joined older brothers, Arnold, Vernon and older sister Eleanor. Sisters Marian and Elaine joined the family later. The family lived on a dairy farm in Martin County, Minnesota. Her father, William, unexpectedly passed away in July of 1939, which required the entire family to help with chores and all that is required to keep a dairy farm going. She pitched in with milking cows and feeding the pigs and chickens. After completing the eighth grade she quit school to help out with the farm work full time. In 1945 she decided to go to Minneapolis to find a job. She worked at Swedish Hospital as a nurse aide and also at Fanny Farmer Candy Company.
She met and married Elmer Allen in 1948. Sons Ronald and Darrel were born in January 1949 and August 1950 respectively. Daughter Wanda joined the family in July 1952. In 1955 the family moved to a small dairy farm near Braham, Minnesota. Daughter Lori was born in June 1957. Doris worked as a homemaker and later as a nurse’s aide at Grandview Christian Home in Cambridge, Minnesota. She retired from Grandview in 1988 after serving over twenty three years. In 1992 she moved from the farm to Park Manor Apartments in Braham, Minnesota. It was there she met and married Lester Krugen in 1995. Due to Lester’s declining health they moved to Grace Pointe Crossing in Cambridge, Minnesota, in July 2011. Lester passed away in March 2013. Doris was noted for baking delicious cinnamon bread and sweet rolls.
Doris is preceded in death by her parents, brothers Arnold and Vernon; sisters Eleanor, Marian and Elaine; her former husband Elmer; and husband Lester.
She is survived by sons Ronald (Eileen) Allen of McCordsville, IN; Darrel (Cecile Aker) Allen of Cambridge, MN; daughters Wanda (Steve) Points of Elko/New Market, MN; Lori (Rick) Turner of North Branch, MN; 12 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, and numerous friends and relatives.
