Neil C. Husom of Grasston, died on Saturday, October 28, 2017 at Grace Pointe Crossing-West Gables in Cambridge.  He was  86 years old.

MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held 2:00 pm on Friday, November 3, 2017 at Rock-Ingebrand Funeral Home.

MEMORIAL VISITATION will one hour prior to the service on Friday.

INURNMENT will be in Bearhead Cemetery near Long Prairie, Minnesota.

Neil Clarence Husom, of Grasston, MN passed away on October 28, 2017 at GracePointe Crossing Gables West in Cambridge, MN.  He was 86 years old.

Neil was born June 29, 1931 in Long Prairie, Todd County, Minnesota to Clarence and Doris  (Butler) Husom.  He grew up on the family farm with five brothers and two sisters.  He graduated from Long Prairie High School in 1949.  While in high school he belonged to Future Farmers of America and was on the basketball team.  He enjoyed playing basketball on roller skates at Dreamland Auditorium (roller rink) in Long Prairie, where he met the love of his life, Gloria Marie Brown, and married on August 31, 1952. To this union 12 children were born.

Neil and Gloria lived in Marshall, Missouri, and in Alexandria, Virginia while Neil served in the U.S. Army from 1951-54 during the Korean Conflict, for which he received a Letter of Commendation.  After completing his service Neil and Gloria returned to Minnesota.  They lived around the Twin Cities area until 1972, when they moved to a farm near Grasston, Minnesota, returning to “life in the country.” 

Neil’s hobbies were hunting and farming.  He loved the out-of-doors.  Neil’s career was of different hats; one of his favorites was train engineer for Northern Pump Co., later known as FMC.  He worked 2 full-time jobs; one at FMC and the other at United Parcel Service where he was employed as a diesel mechanic.

He loved family gatherings and holidays, always surrounded by his many children and grandchildren.  He will be truly missed by the numerous people who knew him.

Neil was preceded in death by two infant sons; his parents and all his siblings.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Gloria of Grasston; his children Terri McRae of Grasston, Randy Husom (Charlotte Paulson) of Brook Park, Renee (Mike) Malenowski of Braham, Michael Husom (Gale Brown) of Cambridge, Kelli (Rod) Greder of Pine City, Dawn (Wayne) Blodgett of North Branch, Sandy (Dale) McKenzie of Braham, Dan Husom of Grasston, Mindy (Matt) Malenke of Mahtowa and Aimee (Colby) Reese of Lake Elmo; 19 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A Memorial Service was held on Friday, November 3, 2017 at Rock-Ingebrand Funeral Home in Braham.  Rev. Terry Port officiated.  Inurnment and Military Honors will be at a later date at Bearhead Cemetery in Long Prairie, MN.

  1. I am sorry to hear about Neil’s passing. My condolences go out to the entire family of Neil.
    I met Neil through his son, Randy, in September 1968, when Randy and I were friends in junior high school 7th grade. Neil would let Randy and I ride along with Neil in the big tow truck when Neil went on “tow calls”. Neil was a hard-working man, and he loved his family. I will always remember the kindness that was always shown to me from Neil and Gloria when I was at their home many times in Blaine, and later in Grasston.
