Joan M. Beckrich, of Mora, passed away on Saturday, October 28, 2017 at the FirstLight Health System in Mora. She was 76 years old.

FUNERAL SERVICE will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, November 2, 2017 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 201 East Forest Avenue in Mora.

VISITATION will be from 4:00- 7:00 pm, on Wednesday, November 1st at the Akkerman – Ingebrand Funeral Home in Mora, and 1 hr. prior to the service at the church on Thursday.

INTERMENT will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Mora.

Joan Marie (Otten) Beckrich of Mora, Minnesota passed away on October 28, 2017 at First Light Hospital in Mora. She was 76 years old.

Joan was born August 15, 1941 at home in Foreston, Minnesota to John and Arnelda (Hunter) Otten. Joan grew up on the family farm near Foreston, Minnesota, the 4th of 14 siblings and attended country school through the 8th grade. She then attended Milaca High School and graduated in l959.

She worked in St. Cloud at Herberger’s after high school for a time, then moved to Minneapolis and worked at Fischer Box Company. Joan met and subsequently married Tony in 1972. Joan and Tony lived in Shakopee for one year and spent the remainder of their marriage at their current address in Mora where they raised their 4 children. During their marriage, she did daycare for numerous children as well as her own. She volunteered at Mora Schools for 24 years and was hired at the age of 65 full-time and finally retired in June 2017. She had many hobbies, and spending time with her grandchildren was her greatest joy.

Joan was preceded in death by her parents John and Arnelda Otten; her brother Richard Otten; two brothers-in-law, Bill Tabbert and Melvin Hallin; niece Elaina Hallin; her great nephew, Jacob Reiland; in-laws Cathy Conyers (Don), Beverly Meyers (Jim), Rosemary Schmidt (Vernon), Edna Waalen (Jerry).

She is survived by her husband Tony of Mora; sons Donald (Ruth) Beckrich of Riverton, Ted (Sarah) Beckrich of Grasston, Charles (Rebecca) Beckrich of Motley, and daughter Kim Jabe of Braham; grandchildren Christopher (Kala) Beckrich and Julia Beckrich, Emily Anderson, Brandi Anseeuw, Derek Starry, Kenzie, Jacob and Bella Beckrich, Zach, Nick and Elizabeth Jabe, Lee, Kolten, Harlie and Arielle Beckrich, Jaszmyn Sieverson, Mckayla and Kaleigh Smith, and Nathan Burdick; great-grandchildren Cole and Courtney Beckrich and Rayne Anseeuw.
Also survived by siblings, Janice (Len) Hallin Nelson of Backus, Carol (Don) Mueller of Foreston, Robert (Sandy) Otten of Andover, Sharon (Gordon) Wolfe of Oak Park, Diane Sproessig of Milaca, Jim (Mary Jo) Otten of Baudette, Nancy (Lester) Fradette of Northome, John (Deb) Otten of Foreston, Cathy (Denny) Gaffer of Crystal, Mary (Tim) Owens of Princeton, Norma (Mark) Bruflodt of Milaca, Ruth (Jim) Struffert of Burnsville; many many nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors.

  1. We are so terribly sorry for the loss of Joanie. She had the ability to always make a person smile and would take the time no matter how busy she was to sit down and chat for a while. Always had her bake our childrens graduation cakes or any special occasion. RIP Joanie we will miss you!

  11. I was so sorry to hear of Joan’s passing. I enjoyed working with her in Mora and having known the Otten family for years. Our sympathies go out to the entire family.
