Dorothy A. McGee, of Mora, died at home on Saturday, Sept. 16, 2017.  She was 72 years old.

MEMORIAL SERVICE will be at 2:00 pm. Friday, Sept. 22, 2017 at Akkerman-Ingebrand Funeral Home.

MEMORIAL VISITATION will be held one hour prior to service at funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to True Vine Lutheran Church for the Celebrate Recovery Program or the charity of their choice.

Dorothy A. McGee, of Mora, MN passed away on Saturday, September 16, 2017 at home.  She was 72 years old. 

Dorothy was born December 1, 1944 at home near Davenport, Iowa and was baptized at Trinity Lutheran Church in Davenport, IA.  She grew up on the family farm the third of four children born to Albert and Marga Lafrenz.  Her family moved to Minnesota where she grew up in the Dexter and Hayfield area. She was confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hayfield. Dorothy attended country school and graduated from Hayfield High School in 1963.  She went to work at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester and was trained as a medical transcriptionist.

She met Joseph Emmett McGee while living in Rochester.  They were married at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hayfield on June 11, 1966.   While Joe served in the Air Force as a jet engine mechanic; they lived in Atwater, California and in 1967 they were stationed overseas at Ramstein Air Force base in Germany.

Upon returning, they settled in the Twin Cities and began their family. Son Tony was born in 1970, followed by their daughter Lisa in 1972.  They moved to Mora in 1977 where Joe worked for Kanabec State bank (currently Citizen’s National Bank) and Dorothy continued working as a medical transcriptionist.  Joe’s banking career took them to Barron, WI and Kenyon, MN before they returned to the Mora area in 2006 for retirement. Dorothy was an accomplished medical transcriptionist, working at her chosen occupation for 50 years.  Dorothy was a gifted musician, playing accordion, piano, guitar and vocalist.  She loved all animals, especially her quarter horse of 30 years, Boonzie.  She will be missed by those who knew and loved her.

Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents.

She is survived by her husband Joseph; son Anthony (Nicole Becker) McGee of Rochester; daughter Melissa Barth of Spearfish, SD; grandchildren, Josee McGee Barth, Ellee Marie Barth, Brody David Barth, Mariah McGee, Devin McGee, Keara McGee, Kira Becker, and Abby Becker; sisters, Eleanor Popp and Lorna Lauinger both of Hayfield; brother LeRoy Lafrenz of Hayfield; several nieces, nephews, beloved cousins, other relatives and friends.
