John Carl Altendorf, age 82, passed away peacefully at his home in Stanchfield, Minnesota on Wednesday, August 17, 2017.

John was born on November 11, 1934 in Maple Plain, Minnesota. He married Phyllis Koch in 1964 after returning from four years of service in the Army. Together they raised four children and a whole lot of cows. He always had a soft spot for his 15 grandchildren. John’s passion was farming; he spent 40 years milking cows and 25 more years raising beef cattle. John was always quick with a joke or a bit of sarcasm; he enjoyed attending the sales barn, playing cards with friends and getting in some Black Jack at the casino. He was very involved with his church and had a deep Catholic faith.

John was preceded in death by his parents and brother Alfred Altendorf.

He is survived by his wife, Phyllis, of 53 years; children Kurt (Melissa), Teri (Curt) Benson, Paul (Ometris), Kevin (Pam); 15 loving grandchildren, Dylan, Maddie, Lizzie, Jared, Paige, Dain, Max, Tyler, Tevin, Tanna, Amber, Nathan, John, Aliza, and Kade; sisters, Helen Vromen and Mary Lou Eull; sister-in-law Sylvia Altendorf and many nieces and nephews.
