Charles “Howard” Swanson, of Cambridge, passed away on Monday, July 31, 2017 at his home in Cambridge. He was 87 years old.
FUNERAL SERVICE will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, August 3 , 2017 at the Braham Covenant Church with Rev. Steve Jennisch officiating.
VISITATION will be held one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the church.
INTERMENT will be at the North Maple Ridge Cemetery in rural Braham.
Charles Howard Swanson, of Cambridge, passed away on Monday, July 31, 2017 at his home. He was 87 years old.
Charles, lovingly known as “Chuck” or “Howard”, was born on October 18, 1929 in Braham, Minnesota to parents Charles William and Hilda Christine (Gerdin) Swanson. He attended District 26, the Hiawatha Country School in rural Braham and later Braham High School. He enlisted in the United States Navy, but was soon given a medical discharge and returned home. Charles was united in marriage to his first wife Pat Lindberg and two children, Audrey and Richard were born.
Charles worked as a machinist for the majority of his career, working at several different companies in California and Arizona before spending his final years at AT&T in Indiana before retiring.
Charles was united in marriage to Helen Anderson on September 8, 1958 in Las Vegas, Nevada and the couple spent more than 53 years together before Helen’s death in December of 2011. Charles moved back to Minnesota to be closer to family in his final years.
Charles was an avid sports fan and loved to watch both college and professional; football, baseball, and basketball games. He also loved NASCAR and never missed a race. He enjoyed country music and played guitar in his younger years. Charles was a lover of dogs and had countless beloved pets over the years.
Charles is preceded in death by his parents, spouse Helen, and brother Bill Swanson.
He is survived by his brother Ken Swanson; sister Carolyn Swanson; children, Audrey (David) Zellman and Richard (Pat) Swanson; grandchildren, Terry (Brenda) Zellman, Christopher Zellman and Robert Kirkham; great grandson Travis Zellman; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
