Charles was born on January 6, 1939. He grew up in Sandstone, MN. He graduated from college at the University of Minnesota and he also served in the US Army at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri.
He was a CPA at Haskins & Sells for many years until he followed one of his lifelong interests and started his own business as a stamp dealer, initially in Braham, MN. He settled in Mora, MN with his family in 1977. He ran his business under both his name and Homestead Stamps, until he was unable work.
In his younger years, Charles loved playing baseball. Charles enjoyed things which kept his brain active; playing cards, fervent reading, and until he was unable to do so, actively followed all news and read as many newspapers as he could get his hands on. You could find him every day of the week with a cup of coffee and a book in his hand at various places in Mora. In addition to these things, hands down, Charles baked the best chocolate chip, oatmeal raisin, and ginger snap cookies.
