Marie Dora Schafer, 72, of Mora, Minnesota, passed away on December 24th, 2016.

Marie was born on April 18th, 1944 at home in Buffalo Lake, Minnesota to John Arthur and Gladys (Klucas) Schafer. She grew up on the family farm, the third of four siblings. Marie attended Buffalo Lake Public School for a few years. Later she attended the Renville County Day Activity Center at Bird Island, Minnesota.

Marie was confirmed and became a member of the Evangelical United Brethren Church, now the United Methodist Church, of Buffalo Lake in 1958 and attended regularly with family.

After Marie’s three brothers grew up and left home, she continued to live with her mother and Aunt Frances on the family farm.

In 1991, Marie moved to Mora, Minnesota to the Brighter Day Residence and to be near her brother, Dan. She worked at Industries, Inc.

She enjoyed bowling, shopping, and other outings with housemates. She liked friendly banter with friends, family, teachers and caregivers. When someone needed help, Marie was quick to offer assistance.

Marie was loved by family and many others who knew her. She will be missed, but we are thankful that she is now experiencing the fullness of God’s presence.

Marie was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her brothers David (Jeanne) of Manhattan, KS, Daniel (Karen) of Mora, MN, and Burton (Virginia) of Olathe, KS; nieces and nephews Jeffrey, Jason, Eric, Heidi, Mindy, Derek, Jeremy, and Mark; and “Sisters” – Jane Lindquist, Jill Gilbertson and Deena Skogman.
