GATHERING OF FRIENDS will be held from 2:00-4:00 pm on Monday, December 19, 2016 at the Akkerman Ingebrand Funeral Home in Mora.

Denise Amundson, of Ogilvie, Minnesota, passed away on December 11, 2016 at her home in Ogilvie. She was 61 years old.

Denise was born August 6, 1955 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Alfred and Lucille Amundson. She grew up in the city and was the second of four siblings. She attended South High School and graduated in 1973. Denise moved on to pursue her love of animals and purchased a hobby farm in Mora in 1982. Here, she surrounded herself with horses and many other animals. She loved to show her horses with her daughter Adrienne and son Derrick every weekend. She reunited with daughters Brenna and Dana’s father in 1988 and moved to Arizona where she loved to soak up the sun. She returned to Minnesota in 1993 with her 4 children and resided in Mora/Ogilvie area for the rest of her time. She returned to college in 1995 and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work in 1999. She worked for the State of Minnesota for 10 years and retired in 2010. Her hobbies included cross stitching, going to garage sales, and gardening. Her laugh was contagious and she loved to crack a good joke. She never shied away from a challenge but embraced it as one would any new experience, with energy and a positive nature hard to imagine. Her vim and vigor for life and its’ achievements was contagious as anyone close to her knew. Denise would want us not to feel sad at her death, but to feel happiness in her uniqueness and proud of her accomplishments. She always called herself the worlds’ biggest Vikings fan and every time they played would dress in her Vikings gear. Game day in her house would be full of cheering and her famous Vikings call. She would always help anyone in need especially her children. Denise was a wonderful mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She will be truly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband Dennis; long-time friend Daryl

Denise is survived by her children; Adrienne (Derek), Derrick, Brenna, and Dana; sisters Debra and Donna (Mike); brother Larry; grandchildren Alex, Dominick, Josie, Angelica, Audriana, Lilly, Brody, Skylar; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Memorial donations in memory of Denise can be made to Brenna or Dana Pearson at Spire Credit Union.

  2. I wanted to express my heartfelt condolences to Denise’s family. There’s such a sense of helplessness when someone we love dies. I’d like to share some scriptural thoughts that really helps me. Prayer is so valuable at this time but it’s not that prayer simply makes us feel better. 2 Cor.4:7 says that God can give us, “… power beyond what is normal “, to go from one day to the next. This does not mean that we no longer cry or that we forget, but it means we recover. The reason we recover is because of our hope. Jesus Christ talked about our hope in John 5:28, “…all those in the memorial tomb will hear his voice and come out “. Jesus was referring to the resurrection; this is our hope that helps us recover and gives us power to go on. 2 Cor.1:3 describes our Creator as, “… the God of all comfort “. One way that God comforts us is by moving people who care about us to give us words of encouragement that we need to hear. May the God of comfort (Ps. 83:18) be your comfort now during this time of sorrow.

  3. We are so saddened for your loss, and wishing you God’s peace and strength as you face this difficult time.
