Roy Eberly, of Ogilvie, passed away on Thursday, October 20, 2016 at his home.  He was 94 years old.

MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, October 27, 2016 at the Akkerman Ingebrand Funeral Home in Mora.

MEMORIAL VISITATION will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Thursday.

PRIVATE FAMILY INURNMENT & MILITARY HONORS will be at the Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis.

Memorials are preferred to the Honor Flight Network.

Roy Wendell Eberly went to be with the Lord on October 20, 2016. He was 94 years old.

He was born September 20, 1922, in Shambaugh, Iowa to Andrew and Carrie (Ross) Eberly. After graduation from high school, he entered military service with the U.S. Army in 1942. Roy served in the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater. His company began in Casablanca, crossing northern Africa before moving north into Italy.  Entering Italy at Anzio Beach, where he received a letter of commendation for Outstanding Performance of Duties. He also received a Good Conduct Medal, 4 overseas service bars, and a bronze arrowhead for bravery under fire.

After the war, he returned home to marry Edna Smith on November 11, 1945. They lived in Corning, Iowa and had one son, Dale. In 1964 they moved to Brook Park, Minnesota and in 1965, they moved to their present homestead in Arthur Township.

Roy worked as a dairy farmer until he retired in 2000 to care for Edna. During his retirement years, he enjoyed traveling and spending time with friends and family in Shambaugh and Clarinda, Iowa. In 2015, he was privileged to go on an Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. with other veterans.

Roy was preceded in death by his beloved wife Edna, his parents, and siblings: Merl, Marie, Mildred, Edith, Ludie, Robert, William, Helen and dear friend, Bonnie Bunting.

He is survived by son Dale (Kathy); grandchildren Dale II (Candice) Eberly, Diana Eberly, Robert (Sarah) McRae, Ronald (Kelly) McRae, Rachel (Zach) Navarro and David Bahlmann.  Roy was also blessed with eleven great grandchildren, Christianna Eberly; Richie, Evan and Sam McRae; Pierce and Caleb McRae; Sarah, Morgan and Alexander Johnson; and Everette and Qwynneth Navarro; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

  1. Roy was one of the finest men I’ve ever met. Such a kind man. He was always out to help and was a very good listener. I didn’t know him for very long but in the time I did I realized what a rare person he was. Wish there were a lot more men like him. He will truly be missed by his family and everyone who knew him. Rest with God Roy.
