Phyllis Jeanette Moe of Mora, MN died Thursday, October 6, 2016 at United Hospital in Saint Paul, MN after a brief illness.  She was 80 years old.

She was born November 27, 1935 in Pennock, MN to Chester Hedman and Dorothy (Swanson) Hedman.  Phyllis lived in Pennock as a child and graduated in 1953 from Willmar High School. She attended secretarial school after high school.
Phyllis married Elmer Moe on April 19, 1958 in Aberdeen, SD.  Her uncle, the Reverend David Hadley, performed the ceremony.  After briefly living in Willmar and Sunburg, they moved to Pine City and eventually settled in Mora in 1962.

Phyllis and Elmer had three children, Susan, Steven, and Scott.  Phyllis stayed at home with the children while Elmer worked for the State of Minnesota.  Once the children started school, Phyllis began working at Calvary Lutheran Church as the secretary, a job she held for over 25 years before retiring.  She took great pride in making sure church bulletins were accurate and newsletters went out on time.
Phyllis was a devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother.  She attended sporting events, 4-H shows, choir and band concerts, piano recitals, skating shows, Sunday school programs and all other activities that her kids and grandkids participated in.  She was so proud of all of them.

In her leisure time, Phyllis liked to sew, especially Barbie doll clothes.  She also liked to crochet and made countless afghans and cotton dish towels. Playing cards and games with her grandchildren was a source of joy. The Christmas dice gift game was a huge annual hit.   She was Treasurer of the Calvary Lutheran Church women for many, many years. Dedicated member of the FirstLight Hospital Auxiliary for 45 years and was treasurer for most of those years as well.  She was an active volunteer at the One More Time Thrift Store that benefits the Senior Federation of our community and was a member of Tusenvann Lodge of Sons of Norway.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Chester and Dorothy, step father Norman Christenson, her beloved husband, Elmer; sisters, Patricia Hanson and JoAnn Jensen, and step brothers, Robert and Dale Christenson.

She is survived by her daughter, Susan Myers of Mora; sons, Steven (Janice) of Grand Rapids, MN and Scott (Caroline) of Mora; eight grandchildren, Chris and Rebecca Myers, Josh (Wendy) and Jacob Moe, Kari, Martha (fiancé Peder  Holte), Erik, and Annelise Moe; two great-grandchildren, Gentry and Layton Moe, Aunt Violet Swanson, brothers Jerry (Vonnie) Hedman and Ronnie (Marcy) Hedman and many other relatives and friends.

What good memories I have of Mrs. Moe and her sweet smile, friendliness and her great baking. Any visit to see my friend Susie, I always was greeted warmly. So glad you were able to be with her so many years and take care of each other. Keep the good memories in front of you to lift you up in the moments when you think of her. May God continue to bless all of you as you continue the strong faith your parents lived and passed on to all of you.
