Marvin Myhre, of Mora, passed away on Sunday, June 26, 2016 at the Essentia Health Care Center in Sandstone, MN.  He was 75 years old.

MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, July 9, 2016 at the Akkerman Ingebrand Funeral Home in Mora

MEMORIAL VISITATION will be held one hour prior to the service.

Marvin Bruce Myhre died on June 26, 2016 at Essentia Health Care Center in Sandstone, MN.  He was 75 years old.

Marvin was born on August 8, 1940 in Bemidji, MN to Leroy and Arvith (Hand) Myhre. He had 4 siblings. Growing up, they lived in Dayton, Ohio near the Wright Airforce Base. When Marvin was eight years old, his mother passed away. The family then moved to Lino Lakes, MN where Marvin graduated from White Bear High School in 1958.

Marvin started drag racing at the North Star Speedway in 1956 and later worked there as an announcer and flag guy until he became the Drag Strip Manager. Marvin also worked at the Applebaum’s grocery market in the Twin Cities area for over 18 years.

Marvin married Eilene Marquardt in 1962, in Rush City, MN. They bought a home across the street and down the block from where Marvin grew up in Lino Lakes.

Marvin started part time as Chief of Police in Lino lakes in 1967, and switched to full-time in 1970. He worked there until 1984 when he and Eilene moved to Ogilvie, MN. In Ogilvie, he was Chief Deputy Sherriff for Kanabec County for 14 years and East Central MN Drug Task Force Coordinator for two years. Marvin retired in April 1999.

Marvin had many hobbies: beekeeping, wood working, maple syrup making, master gardening, vintage cars, traveling with Eilene, photography, collecting guns, collecting coins, playing banjo, reading, researching genealogy, spending time with his grandkids and great grandkids, hunting, computers, singing, camping, bird watching and telling many jokes…funny or not!

Marvin is preceded in death by his father and mother, step-mother Helen, brothers Bob and Dexter, and grandson Dillon.

He is survived by his wife Eilene Myhre, three children Patrick (Joy) Myhre, Kelly (Scott) Nelson, and Maureen Myhre; grandchildren Kati (Nick) Eberhardt, Kayla (Brent) Kays, Kristine Thomas, Benjamin Myhre, Addie (Matthew) Verant, Cody Myhre, Emma Myhre, Janie Myhre, Samuel Chapin; step grandchildren Becca Desjardins and Catie Nelson; great grandchildren, Noah Bowerman, Izabell and Cloe Eberhardt, Letty and Thea Kays; brothers Ron (Gayle) Myhre, Clinton (Linda) Myhre, Alan (Tatiana) Myhre; sister Kathy (John) Hubbard and many nieces, nephews, family and friends.

    My thoughts and prayers are with you. Marvin will be missed here at the nursing home. We always joked about how lucky I was to have a cop next door to my office. Great memories and so nice to have had the opportunity to know such a great family. God bless.
