Alyce Marie Davis, of Mora, MN, passed away on Monday, April 25, 2016 at the age of 83.
Alyce was born to Frank and Elsie Shultz on May 20, 1932 in Hinckley, MN and was the fourth of six children.  Alyce was a bright and active girl who wore out more pairs of shoes than the war rations allowed each year.

She graduated as salutatorian from Hinckley High School and obtained her teaching certification from St. Cloud State College.  As a young woman she taught fifth grade in Mora, MN.  After marrying Elmer Davis in October 1956 she spent many years as an at home mother and volunteer.  Elmer’s job required many moves and the family lived in St. Paul, Bloomington, Sauk Centre, Crosby and Brainerd.  In 1972 she returned to work for Brainerd Public Schools in the libraries at Washington and Franklin Junior High Schools.

Alyce and Elmer moved to Mora in 1995 to spend their retirement years closer to family and friends.  Alyce and Elmer enjoyed trips to various parts of the U.S., including Alaska; also to Canada and Sweden.  Alyce spent her retirement years reading, knitting, baking and entertaining.  Activities at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, her circle, the Knights of Columbus Auxiliary and other groups kept her busy.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Elmer; son Daniel; son-in-law Nathan Nygren; sister Kay and brother Bob.

Alyce is survived by her daughter Denise Nygren of Bloomington, MN and son Dirk Davis of Cook, MN.  In addition, she is survived by grandsons Davis and Erik; sisters Ruthanne and Jean (Arne); brother Frank (Sharon) and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Mass of Christian Burial was held on Friday, April 29th at St. Mary’s Catholic Church.  Fr. Eugene Plaisted and Rita Clasemann officiated.  Casket bearers were Dirk Davis, Davis Nygren, Erik Nygren, Brian Jussila, James Pavelka and Darin Pulkrabek.  Interment was at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Mora.

  2. So sorry to hear of Alyce’s passing. We saw her not to long ago at Freddies and had a nice visit.
We extend our sympathy to you and Alyce’s extended family. We appreciated her as she and Elmer were faithful members of the Swedish club, Dala Heritage Society for many years. Love, Gordon and Ardis

  3. I worked at the Brainerd State Hospital and became friends with Alyce who used to bring delicious food to any of our potlucks. Elmer was my “boss” They were both so kind and caring.

  4. I remember both your parents as being so very kind. I am a member of St. Andrews & knew them from
there. I also worked at the State Hospital so I knew your Dad through the years. He was such a caring
person & all who worked there respected him . I am sorry for your loss. My husband John was on
dialysis also so I can appreciate those who go thru that are very courageous people.
With prayers for your family on this great loss, Sincerely, Joan
