John Kulyas Jr, of Ogilvie, passed away on Monday, March 7, 2016 at the Elim Home in Milaca. He was 85 years old.
FUNERAL SERVICE will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, March 18, 2016 at the St. Kathryn’s Catholic Church in Ogilvie.
VISITATION will be held 1 1/2 hours prior to the service on Friday at the church.
INTERMENT will be in the St. Kathryn’s Catholic Cemetery in Ogilvie.
John Kulyas, Jr., age 85, of Ogilvie, passed away on Monday, March 7, 2016 at the Elim Home in Milaca, MN.
John was born on September 30, 1930 in St. Paul, MN to John and Eleanor (Twardy) Kulyas. John moved to the Ogilvie homestead at the age of nine years old, where he grew up on the family farm. John was the second oldest of six, and attended country school until the eighth grade. John served his country in the United States Army from January – November, 1951 during the Korean War.
On June 15, 1960 John was united in marriage to Lydia Burklund at St. Kathryn’s Catholic Church in Ogilvie, MN. To this union four children were born, Laurie, Mary, John III, and Peter. John was a lifetime farmer on the family farm. He was a dairy farmer for nearly 40 years, from which he retired and did some crop farming for roughly ten years. John was a member of the Mora American Legion Post #201. He served as Commander from May 2006 – April 2008, was in the color guard, and a member of the Last Man’s Club. John also enjoyed watching NASCAR, old movies, playing bingo, scrabble, solitaire, woodworking, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. John was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather. He will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him.
John was preceded in death by his parents, granddaughter Jessica Kulyas, son-in-law Michael Kunst, siblings Tom Kulyas, Sr., and Helen Garcia.
John is survived by his bride of 55 years, Lydia of Ogilvie; daughters, Laurie Kunst of Ogilvie; Mary (Tim) Ziegler of Foreston; sons, John III of Ogilvie, and Peter (Danelle Rydeen) Kulyas of Ogilvie; sisters Marlene (Marvin) Simons of Ogilvie; Sylvia (John) DuChene of Ogilvie, and brother Steven (Elaine) Kulyas of Prior Lake; 13 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren with three more on the way, and many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends
