On February 24, 2016, James “Jim” Wesley Terpstra was called home to heaven while doing what he loved down in Texas. He was 78 years old.

Jim was born in Ogilvie, MN on November 8, 1937 to Joe and Winnie (Stellinga) Terpstra. He was the youngest of four children. Jim grew up in the Ogilvie area among many friends and family. On April 18, 1957, Jim married his soul mate, Lois Norma Kessler. Together, they built a wonderful life, spending a short time in California, but eventually settling down in Ogilvie. They had five children together, Randy, Michael, Jody, Darren and Heidi. Jim worked many years digging graves around the area with his big yellow rig. In 1966, Jim and Lois took over the family farm.

In 1994, Jim and Lois started their Texas adventure, and eventually made Mission their permanent winter home. Jim was involved in softball, golf, pool leagues, horseshoe tournaments, and multiple card groups.

Jim was a man of faith, who loved the Lord and was involved in many church activities. He was a family man and loved his wife, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He enjoyed spending time with each of them. He loved to fish, hunt, play golf, shoot pool, and especially chat over coffee. Jim’s smile and warmth will be missed by many.

He is preceded in death by his parents Joe and Winnie, step-father Henry DeJager, and sister Lois.

Jim is survived by his wife of 58 years, Lois: sons Randy (Vicki), Michael (Julie), and Darren: daughters, Jody (Jeff) Rice and Heidi (Jake) Sedlacek; grandchildren, Nicole (Jeff), Trent (Sarah), Bobby (Thea), Ricky (Mary Beth), Jennifer, Chelsey (Tyler), Wesley, Tony, Makenzie and Tyler; great grandchildren, Deysia, Austin, Chase, Kyla, Leddy, Reagan, and baby Terpstra; brother Percy (Dorothy) and sister Joyce VanderPlaats; among many other relatives and friends.

  2. Bonnies, uncle Jim Terpstra, past yesterday. He was a true man’s man, a gentleman. He always made me feel welcome. I fished with him, played cards, shared many meals, and laughed together. He was there after both Bonnies parents past. He let me lean on him. I have truly lost some one I looked up to. Some one I would would like to be more like. I was truly blessed to have him in my life. He was loved, and will be missed, by many, including me. Give him rest Lord.

  3. Not a day goes by that I’m not thinking about you Grandpa! Thank you for all the memories! For sharing your beautiful voice in song, teaching us how to play a billion different card games, teaching us grandkids pool (I was the worst at it) and being patient with us the entire time. I will cherish all the memories and share them all with my girls so they continue to know who their Great Papa Jim was! A loving, kind, Godly man! We love you and miss you so much!
