Dona Jean (Weigel) Morris, age 89, of Mora, formerly of St. Paul; passed away Wednesday, January 27, 2016 at the St. Clare Living Community in Mora.

Dona Jean Weigel was born in St. Paul, Minnesota, on March 15, 1926 to Henry Dietrich and Greta Grace (Peterson) Weigel.  Raised in St. Paul, Dona grew up poor but never knew it.  She had an enchanting smile and the twinkle in her blues eyes was stunning.  She developed her musical gift, a gorgeous soprano voice that was in demand for church functions, weddings, holiday celebrations, and funerals for many decades.  After her marriage to Arvid Leroy Morris on June 28, 1952, her family became the focal point of her life.  Dona had grit when it came to protecting her family and defending her faith.  Whether on the porch in St. Paul, Manistee, Bozeman, Great Falls, and Grand Rapids, or in her living room in Mora, there was nothing more comforting to her than having her “chicks gathered round her”.  Always nurturing to her children and grandchildren, she was also tolerant of others and accepted and loved people as they were.  She had a special relationship with her Father in Heaven.  Her silent prayers were powerful and were often felt by those she loved.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Robert Weigel, and two sisters, Ruth Bergstrom and Carol Meyer.

She is survived by her husband Arvid; her sister Geraldine Sortedahl of Carlton, Minnesota; her daughter Marsha (Steve) Cottingham of Mora; her son Jack (Jennifer) Morris of White Bear Lake; her son Tom (Lisa) Morris of Provo, Utah; her grandsons Kyle and Cody Cottingham, and Austin, Erik, Miles, Kirk, Scott and Connor Morris; and seven great grandchildren.

  1. Steve and Marsha: I am so sorry for your loss. Please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers.

  2. For the few years we lived next to Dona and Arvid on White Pine Court I remember Dona as such a sweet lady. She would always stop to say hi when outside or would wave and smile when driving by. She will be missed by her loving family but her silent prayers will continue to be felt by those she loved.

  3. Sincere sympathies on the loss of your mother (in-law, grandmother). May you find comfort in your memories of her.

  4. Please accept my sincere condolences for your loss. Know that God is aware of the tears you are shedding. (Psalm 56:18) He will soon do what is said at Acts 24:15, which promises us of a resurrection of our loved ones. May that bring you hope. Take comfort in your good memories and allow your family and loving friends to help you through this difficult time.

  5. A real pleasure to know this kind woman, who welcomed you into her life the minute she met you! Feeling blessed to have met her and her wonderful family!
