Elfreida (Kent) Butler, of Sturgeon Lake, died on Tuesday, December 8th, 2015 at Mercy Hospital in Moose Lake. She was 75 years old.
FUNERAL SERVICES will be held on Monday, December 14 at 11:00 a.m. at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Mora.
VISITATION will be held one hour prior to the service on Monday at the church.
INTERMENT will be at Oakwood Cemetery.
Elfreida Mae (Kent) Butler, of Sturgeon Lake, Minnesota, passed away on December 8, 2015 at Mercy Hospital in Moose Lake. She was 75 years old.
Elfreida was born on February 25, 1940 at home in Comfort Township, Kanabec County, Minnesota to Harry and Mildred (Benike) Kent. She grew up on the family farm, the fourth of seven siblings, and attended country school until the age of 14. She then attended Mora High school and graduated in 1958. Elfreida was voted “most beautiful” in her senior class. She worked on the family farm often following her father around.
She also was a nurse trainee. This was her passion. She loved people and had a genuine love for others. After high school Elfreida attended the University of Minnesota from 1958-1960 where she graduated from Nursing School. She had been active in the nursing profession from 1960 until retirement in 2010. She won the Mayor Naftalin National award for nursing in 1963. Also, she attended Estel Compton Modeling School in 1972. Among other things, she modeled for Minneapolis Merchandising Mart & Milton’s, and was voted Ms. 494 in 1973, and also was a television spokesperson for an auto repair shop.
She was united in marriage to Edward Swenson in the fall of 1961. During this union they were blessed with two children, Mark and Mary. In May of 1980 she married Donald Butler. They shared a true love for each other and recently celebrated 35 years of marriage. They traveled the country and found their home in Sturgeon Lake.
Elfreida loved the Lord with all her heart. She would often be seen reading her well worn Bible and taking notes. She loved her family and was very proud of everyone. She loved family gatherings and making lots of food. Her hobbies included: reading, drawing, watching and yelling at the Vikings and working in her yard. She was very proud of her flowers. She loved people and anyone that knew her loved her. She was always ready and willing to help family and friends. A loving wife, mother, and grandmother, anyone who knew her loved her beautiful smile and genuine heart. She is home with her Lord and Savior.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother Warren Kent.
Elfreida is survived by her husband Donald Butler of Sturgeon Lake; children, Mark Swenson of McHenry, Illinois and Mary (Carl) Nordquist of Mora, Minnesota. Brothers and sisters, Carl (Jennette) Kent of Pine City, Minnesota, Lorraine Kent of Mora, Minnesota, Gertrude (Joel) Carlson of Mora, Minnesota, Harry (Jennifer) Kent of Mora, Minnesota, Lenore (Donald) Martens of Mora, Minnesota. Grandchildren, Jeremiah Pitman, Anna Pitman, Carter Swenson.
