A GATHERING OF FRIENDS will be held from 2:00-4:00 pm on Friday, December 11, 2015 at the Rock Ingebrand Funeral Home in Braham.

Richard “Dick” Herman Mangelsdorf, of Braham, passed away on Sunday, December 6, 2015 at his home.  He was 58 years old.

Richard, lovingly known as Dick, was born on June 17, 1957 in Moline, Illinois to parents Robert and Margaret (Yager) Mangelsdorf.  Dick was a member of the Boy Scouts, making Eagle Scout rank in his teen years. He attended school in Moline, graduating from Moline High School in 1975.  Dick then began his five year apprenticeship to become a pattern maker.   He worked in the Moline area before moving to Minneapolis, MN in 1990. In 2003, Dick began working for Superior Pattern in Blaine as a Certified Master Pattern Maker.  He continued to work until he was diagnosed with cancer in November of 2015.

In 2010, Dick met Lenay (Hall) Phillipps.  The couple moved to Braham in 2012 and purchased an older home that they planned to restore together.  On Saturday, December 5, 2015 Dick and Lenay were united in marriage in a small ceremony at their home. Unfortunately, Dick lost his fight against cancer the next day with Lenay by his side.

Dick loved the outdoors.  He enjoyed camping, hiking, biking, and fishing.  He and Lenay loved to travel and enjoyed yearly trips to different destinations around the country.   Dick was very talented mechanically and could fix almost anything.  He especially liked to restore older homes and return them back to their former glory.  In recent years, Dick discovered a love of gardening and growing healthy fruits and vegetables.  Dick will be dearly missed by his loving wife and family.

Dick is preceded in death by his father Robert Mangelsdorf.

He is survived by his wife Lenay, mother Margaret, daughters, Stephanie Mangelsdorf and Rebecca (JayB) Mangelsdorf-Thompson; grandchildren, Jordan, Kyle, Devin, Quay, and Jbriona; Lenay’s sons, Nathaniel (Sarah) Phillipps, Zachary Phillipps (Fiancée Andrea Edling), and Joshua Phillipps (Fiancée Emily Hoffman); siblings, Kathy, David, John, Bill, Paul and Bobby; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

  1. God is always with us —- in our joy and in our pain, in the good times and in the bad times. His steadfast love and faithfulness are promises to which we can cling, promises to bring us joy when we feel loneliness…

The lord makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake

This is for the sweetest man that I got the chance to know… You will be missed Dick 😳

  2. Prayers are with you and your families at this sad time Lenay. Dick fought such a brave battle, he was such a nice man and will be missed. Peace be with you all.

  3. The news of Dick’s illness and of his passing is sad. I had the honor of working with Dick for many years with him as the pattern marker for so many patterns I have lost count. Always a joy to work with, his easy-going style and his expertise to help solve problems will never be forgotten. My heart and prayers are with you always. Tim
