Sophia Hoekstra, of Mora, passed away on Tuesday, October 13, 2015 at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.  She was 85 years old.

Sophia was born on February 3, 1930 in Ogilvie, Minnesota to parents John and Dora (Dykstra) DeJong.

On December 14, 1950, Sophia was united in marriage to Bertram Hoekstra.  The couple made their home in Inver Grove Heights and raised five children over the next 36 years.  Sophia and Bertram moved to the Mora area where they lived for their remaining years.

Sophia was a devote Christian and a member of the Christian Reform Church in her younger years and later a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Mora.  Sophia enjoyed puzzles and readings.  She was truly accomplished in her sewing skills; making clothing for her family, cancer caps, pillow dresses, and quilts that were sent around the world.  Most of all Sophia was a caregiver, which she demonstrated through the loving care of her family and friends.  She will be dearly missed.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers, John and Everett DeJong, and sister Theresa (Clarence) Zylstra.

She is survived by her children, Doris (Kim) Mork; John (Karen); Clarence (Lori); Elsie (Ray) Takle; and Sally (Mike) Kirchner; 12 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren; siblings, Richard (Ruth) DeJong, Agnes (Al) Ziesmer, and Grace Howard; sisters-in-law, Harriet DeJong of Mora, Judy DeJong of Milaca, Cathy Turner of Minneapolis, and Sylvia Hoekstra of Inver Grove Heights; brother-in-law Clarence Vos of Detroit, MI; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
