John A. Carlson, of Mora, passed away on Sunday, August 23, 2015 at the FirstLight Health System in Mora. He was 87 years old.
FUNERAL SERVICE will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, August 27, 2015 at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ogilvie.
VISITATION will be held from 5:00-7:00 pm on Wednesday, August 26th at the Akkerman Ingebrand Funeral Home and 1 hour prior to the service at the church.
INTERMENT will be in the Graceland Cemetery in Ogilvie.
John Albert Carlson, of Mora, MN died on Sunday, August 23, 2015 at the age of 87 years old.
John was born on May 3, 1928 at home in Bogus Brook township, Mille Lacs county, Minnesota. He was the seventh child of Axel and Anna (Orolin) Carlson. He attended school through the 8th grade at District 28 country school. He then entered the 9th grade at Milaca, finishing ½ of the year. He began dairy farming which continued throughout his working life and in 1949 took over the family farm. He married Leona Dahlberg of Ogilvie, MN in 1951 at Bock, Minnesota. They continued to farm the home place until October 31, 1956 when they bought their own farm northwest of Ogilvie. There they raised their five children; Ronald, Janet, Wesley, Josephine and Linda. In the spring of 1990 they sold the farm. They lived in different places in Kanabec County before they bought their home in Mora in 2003.
John loved his work horses and pleasure horses. He was known for his outstanding Holstein dairy herd on D.H.I.A.; and had the top herd in Kanabec County for three years until they sold the herd in August of 1988. He loved to go to many farm auctions. He was on the Ogilvie Shipping Association for 28 years, most of time as chairman; served as supervisor on Kanabec township board for many years; and was on the North Pine Electric task force for Kanabec Township. He loved to go dancing with his wife; and enjoyed many seasons of deer hunting with his sons, grandsons and friends. He was confirmed and baptized at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ogilvie where he has been a member since 1969.
John was preceded in death by parents; siblings Gladys, Victor, Marie, Archie, Blanche, Sonny and Wayne; and son-in-law Bradley Burk.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Leona; children Ronald Carlson of Barnum, Janet (James) Ericksen of Luck, WI, Wesley (Roxann) Carlson of Brook Park, Josephine Burk of Inver Grove Heights, MN, and Linda (Alf) Lange of Ashland, Kentucky; 11 grandchildren Stacy (Steve) Brausen, Miranda Burk, Chad Carlson, Dustin (Cortney) Carlson, Melita Ericksen, Dana Ericksen, Ryan (Catherine) Carlson, Rikie (Nicholas) Boebel, Randie Carlson, Blake Lange, Amanda (Alexander) Suico; 7 great-grandchildren Alexander Boebel, Harper Carlson, Hadley Carlson, Hayes Carlson, Elizabeth Carlson, Logan Suico and Hannah Suico; sisters Vivian Buffington of Foley, MN and Pearl Carland of New Hope, MN; plus nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
