FUNERAL SERVICE will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, July 27, 2015 at Calvary Lutheran Church in Mora with Rev. Dean Oelfke.

VISITATION will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.

INTERMENT will be at 11:15 am on Tuesday, July 28, 2015 at Assembly Area #4 at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Calvary Lutheran Church.

Berniece Emma Giese, of Mora, passed away on Wednesday, July 22, 2015 at St. Clare’s Living Community in Mora. She was 94 years old.

Berniece was born on May 14, 1921 in Monticello, MN to Elmer H. and Mathilda A. Anderson.  Born the second of three children, she grew up in Monticello; graduating in 1938.  In her younger years, she worked for Dayton’s and Honeywell in Minneapolis.  In 1946 Berniece was united in marriage to Henry Giese in Minneapolis.  In 1949 Berniece and the family moved to a farm north of Quamba where they lived until moving to a farm closer to Mora in 1955.  Berniece worked for Dr Lutien and Dr Gadola’s Dental office in Mora for many years and later worked for the Kanabec Co-op in Mora.

After retirement, Berniece and Henry enjoyed traveling around Minnesota and Wisconsin and spent many summers camping in Grand Marais.  Over the years, Berniece enjoyed crocheting and knitting dollies and afghans for family and friends.  She was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church in Mora since 1956 and was actively involved in the women’s group. After Henry’s death in 1990, Berniece remained on the farm until moving to the Pine Crest Apartments in Mora in 2003.  She later moved to the Villages Assisted Living apartments and spent her final years at St. Clare’s Living Community in Mora.  Berniece will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

Berniece is preceded in death by her parents, husband Henry, an infant son, son-in-law Miron Majeski, and brother Harold (Ruth) Anderson.

She is survived by her children, Donna (Vernon) Heineman, Annette Majeski, and Tom (Diane) Giese all of Mora; sister Gladyce Anderson of Mora; grandchildren,  John (Jenny), Chad (Ann), Kristy (Eric), Andrew (Jenny), Matthew (Paige), Renee (Bryan), Leslie (Ryan); great grandchildren, Ben (Moriah), Alex, Chris, Emma, Nicholas, Hannah, Helena, Greta, Elsa, Annabelle, Jack, Anders, Evan, Logan (Tiffany); great great grandchildren, Travis, Lance, and Aiden; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

    I was so saddened to hear this news. Berniece was such a wonderful person and I looked forward to seeing her each week. I will miss this lovely lady.
