W. Larson webphotoWallace Larson, of Modesto, California, formerly of Mora, Minnesota, passed away on Tuesday, January 6, 2015 at English Oaks Nursing and Rehab in Modesto, CA.  He was 95 years old.

FUNERAL SERVICE will be at 11:00 am on Saturday, February 7, 2015 at the First Presbyterian Church in Mora with Rev. Bob DeYoung officiating.

VISITATION will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.

INTERMENT will in the Lewis Lake Memorial Gardens Cemetery in rural Ogilvie.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to a charity of your choice in Wally’s memory.

Wallace Otto Larson of Modesto, CA. (formerly from Mora) quietly slept into heaven on Tuesday Jan. 6, 2015, to join the love of his life, Phyllis.

 Wally was born June 27, 1919 in Braham, MN to Otto and Anna Larson. He was the 2nd oldest of 5 children growing up in Ogilvie and graduating from Ogilvie High School at the age of 16.

 After working on the farm, he went to Detroit, Ml for Auto Diesel and Aviation Mechanics School. He returned home and worked several mechanical jobs in Cambridge and the Twin Cities.

 In 1941, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy going to North Africa, and the Pacific in Okinawa. He returned to the states in 1946 moving back to Ogilvie.

While working at Tinker and Johnson he met Phyllis Hansen at the Deluxe Cafe, and they were married June 21, 1947, at Siloa Lutheran Church. To this marriage 3 children were born.

Wally and Phyllis purchased the Montgomery Ward Catalog Agency in the mid 60’s and worked side by side for over 10 years, retiring in 1978 at the ages of 59 & 50. Later he returned to part-time work at the Coast-to-Coast Hardware as he loved working with the public, and staying busy.

They became winter Texans for over 25 years where they enjoyed entertaining many family and friends who came to visit. They also loved traveling the US visiting with family and friends.

He was very active in the First Presbyterian Church, the American Legion, 40/8 and was a WWII veteran. He was truly very loyal to God and his country.

Wally was an amazing father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend, and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

 He was preceded in death by parents, Otto and Anna Larson; his wife, Phyllis; sister, Myra; and son, Darwin.

Wally is survived by his daughters, Debbie and Jeff Johnson of Page, AZ, Doreen and Randy Anderson of Modesto, CA, and adopted daughter Diana and Maynard Bauer of Mesa, AZ. He has 4 beautiful grandchildren, Jennie and Dave Heggem, Ryan and Miranda  Akkerman, Trevor Akkerman, Alyssa and Brian Ferguson. And was blessed with 8 great grandchildren, Riley, Sami ,Randy and Shane Heggem, Tristan and Raina Akkerman, and  Emma and Jackson Ferguson. Sisters, Bernice Haase of Bloomington, MN, Viola and Bud Rosengren of Bloomington, MN, brother, Les and Betty Larson of New Brighton, MN and many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

  2. Wally and Phyllis were good friends of my parents, Arvid and Lillian Johnson, and my brother, Dick. They will be deeply missed by all who knew them.

  3. Sympathy to Wally’s family. Wally was an employee at Tinker and Johnson and was of friend of my parents, Stub and Nora Tinker.
