Clarence Alexander Kopp Jr., of Stanchfield, Minnesota, passed away Sunday, November 23, 2014 at his home.  He was 75 years old.

Clarence, lovingly known by many as Red, was born on April 22, 1939 in Minneapolis, MN to parents Clarence Sr. and Elsie Faye (Griffith) Kopp.  He grew up in St. Anthony Village and at the age of 10, began working at his family’s restaurant “The Crest”.  In his early 20’s, Red worked for Perkins for a short time before opening his own restaurant in North Minneapolis.  In 1968 Red took over the family restaurant.  After leaving the restaurant business to follow his passion, Red opened Hugo Auto Parts in 1972.    On February 18, 1976, Red was united to marriage to Geraldine McDonough in Las Vegas, Nevada.  The couple moved to Stanchfield where Clarence opened and operated Kopp Towing and Auto Parts.  Clarence was a very loving and devoted husband, taking care of Gigi until her death in 2004.   Clarence fully retired in 2004.

Red’s family is deeply grateful to Mary and Bryan Palmer for their devotion to Red’s care, especially over his last few months.

Red’s lifelong passion was anything automotive.  He loved fixing and restoring cars, especially Buicks.  In his younger years, he enjoyed riding and working on motorcycles.  In the late 60’s and early 70’s Red participated in boat races throughout the Midwest and even enjoyed a few wins.  Red loved animals and rescued many cats and dogs throughout the years.

Red was a tough but caring person and he died the way he lived….his way.

Red is preceded in death by his parents Clarence Sr. and Elsie Faye, wife Gigi, sister Sandra Hanish, and brother-in-law Andrew Varhol.

He is survived by his children, Dana (Tom) Van Wie of Amery, WI; Kevin (Anne) Kopp of Shakopee; and Powell (Heather) Kopp of St. Paul; grandchildren, Melinda (John) Ransbottom, Amanda Wyatt, Nick Wyatt, and Kyna Wyatt; great grandchildren, Devin, Jack, Chance, Jaedyn, Michael and Ben; siblings, Joyce Varhol of Coon Rapids and James (Suzanne) Kopp of Brooklyn Center; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A Memorial Service was held on Sunday, November 30, 2014 at the Rock Ingebrand Funeral Home in Braham.  Arrangements are by the Rock Ingebrand Funeral Home.
