Harriet Mae Strandlund, of Prior Lake, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 3, 2014 at the St. Francis Regional Medical Center in Shakopee, MN.  She was 95 years old.

Harriet was born on March 25, 1919 in Braham, Minnesota to parents George and Edith (Linden) Nordin. Throughout her childhood, she lived in Day and Henriette where her parents owned general stores.  She attended and graduated from Mora High School and went on to the Minneapolis Business College for 2 years.  From there, she worked for the Harvard Mutual Insurance Company in supervisory position.   On March 17, 1946, as part of a double ring ceremony in Bayport, Minnesota, Harriet was united in marriage to Bertrand Hilding Strandlund.  The couple bought a home in Stacy, Minnesota where they were blessed with three beautiful daughters, Pamela, Paula, and Sheila.

Harriet was very musically gifted and was a talented pianist and organist.  She loved to play 50’s era big band music and would often perform with secular and religious groups.  She was the church organist at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Stacy for many years.

After retirement, Harriet and Bert spent their summers in Nisswa, Minnesota and winters in Winter Haven, Florida.  After Bert’s death in 2009, Harriet was blessed to live out her final years in Prior Lake with her daughter Paula.  Harriet loved games – especially Scrabble, and virtually “dancing” the polka with Bert each day as she watched a beloved musical program.  She was a truly kind and compassionate woman, always ready and willing to help others.  She will be remembered for her sweet and gentle spirit and will be dearly missed.

Harriet is preceded in death by her parents, husband Bertrand, and sister Fern (Vernon) Olson.

She is survived by her daughters, Pamela (Earl) Torkkola of Hugo; Paula Lundberg of Prior Lake; and Sheila (Robert) Klym of Lakeville; 6 grandchildren, Jackie (Jared) Voss, Angie Colter, Becky (Darnell) Krebs, Evan Lundberg, Jennifer Morrison, and Lauren (Matt) Burns; 4 nephews, Michael (Nancy) Olson, Doug (Liz) Olson, Jeff Olson, and Tim (Lisa) Olson; other loving relatives and friends.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, October 9, 2014 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Brunswick, MN with Rev. Del Schanidt officiating.  A memorial visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the service at the church. Music will be provided by Jacki Peterson, Angie Colter, and Jennifer Morrison.  The Urn Bearer will be Evan Lundberg.  Inurnment will be in the Riverside Cemetery in Brunswick, MN.  Arrangements are by the Rock Ingebrand Funeral Home of Braham, MN.

  1. To the Harriet Strandlund Family- I was so saddened to hear of your mom and grandma’s passing. Such a beautiful woman inside and out. I had the pleasure of meeting her a few years back with my Grandma- Alta Heise. I could quickly see how the two had remained friends all these years. They had such a special friendship and bond that has gone through so many years and distance. We first met up in Nisswa and when Harriet moved south, we continued our annual visits at Mystic Lake for a little lunch and gambling- most recently this past September. Something I truly looked forward too. Having the pleasure of also meeting her beautiful girls these past few years. Harriet was one of those people I met and instantly loved. She will be missed greatly. Sending prayers and thoughts to her family – and feeling blessed to have known her.
