Carl Hilding Peterson, of Grasston, passed away on Saturday, September 20, 2014 at GracePointe Crossing West Gables in Cambridge.  He was 85 years old.

Carl was born on January 16, 1929 in Braham, Minnesota the youngest of six children.  His mother Hulda Peterson died during childbirth and only six months later, Carl’s father Malker Peterson died as well.  The children were raised by their paternal aunt, Aida Peterson.  Carl grew up in Braham, graduating from Braham High School in 1947.   He enlisted in the United States Army and served in Korea as a postal engineer in a MASH unit.  After his discharge from the military, Carl returned to Braham.

On June 20, 1959, Carl was united in marriage to Audrey Adell Swanson.  They made their home in Braham and were blessed with two daughters, Terrie and Sharon.  For many years Carl worked as a mechanic for the Chevrolet Garage and the Skelly Station in Braham.  He would always ride his bicycle to work-year round.   After Carl retired as a mechanic, He and Audrey moved to McGregor, MN where he worked for a number of years as a custodian for the Buckhorn Bar.  Carl and Audrey returned to the area, buying a home in Grasston.  For a couple of years he worked for Ercoa in Braham and then the Braham Pub, doing cleaning and prep work alongside Audrey before fully retiring.

Carl loved the outdoors, especially watching a peaceful sunrise or sunset.  He enjoyed time spent at the cabin, cutting wood, feeding the birds, camping and fishing.  In his later years, Carl enjoyed listening to old thyme music and watching train shows.  Carl was very proud of his military service and a member of the Pine City VFW.  He was a poet in his heart and wrote poems for each of his grandchildren and great grandchildren.  He was even published in a book of poetry.  Carl will be remembered for his quiet nature, his quick wit, and loving heart.  He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

Carl is preceded in death by his parents, wife Audrey, five siblings, Roy Peterson, Ruth Farah, Fern Soderstrom, Earl Peterson, and Edna Gustafson.
