Jeanette Thompson, of Milaca, passed away on Tuesday, September 2, 2014 at the Elim Home in Milaca. She was 81 years old.
MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, September 8, 2014 at the Milaca Free Church with Rev. Bruce Thompson (son) and Rev. Harry Swanson (cousin) officiating.
Jeanette Arlene Thompson was born July 18, 1933 in St. Cloud, MN to Robert and Edith (Olson) Johnson. She grew up in the Milaca area. She was a co-salutatorian of her high school class of 1951. She was united in marriage to Robert C. Thompson on September 26, 1953 at the Milaca Free Church. Jeanette and Bob lived their years together in Onamia, Cove, Boone, IA, and Milaca.
Jeanette was employed with Red & White (later known as Spande’s) Grocery Store of Milaca during her junior and senior year of high school. Following high school, she worked at Nyquist & Nyquist Law Office June 1951-1953, where she continued to prepare income taxes seasonally until 1963. While raising her family, she did income taxes from her home and was actively involved with farm responsibilities. Further employment included Cove School 1969-74, Free Church Nursing Home of Boone, IA 1974-1975, Onamia Nursing Home & Hospital 1975-1981, cooking & other positions at Grindstone Lake Bible Camp summers (1972 – mid 1980s), Lines & Ruble Law Offices of Milaca (1980s), as well as continuing to do income taxes for others for many years.
Jeanette asked Jesus to be her Savior at the age of 11 at Buffalo Bible Camp. She was a lifetime member of Milaca Free Church, of which her parents and grandparents were founding members. She taught Sunday School for many years, helped with Vacation Bible Schools & youth groups, and was active in the Women’s Mission Society and White Cross. Her love for Jesus and others was demonstrated in so many ways. She filled her days with helping others, cooking, gardening, sewing, singing, enjoying God’s creation, and anything she could do to serve her family.
She is survived by husband of 61 years, Robert, sons David (Lynette) of Columbia Heights, Philip (Vicki) of Milaca, Bruce (Lori) of Mora, and daughter Mary (James) Holt of St. Cloud, 12 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents Robert and Edith Johnson, and infant grandson Bradley Thompson.
