Bonnie Holmes, age 84, of Mora, our REMARKABLE Mom, Grandma and Great-Grandma, left her earthly home surrounded by much love on Friday, August 15, 2014 to attend a heavenly family reunion and is reunited with the love of her life.

Bonnie Mae Eaton was born March 14, 1930 to Lawrence & Minnie Eaton in Bemidji, MN. Her family lived in several places during her formative years (Minneapolis, Bloomington, Hopkins, Bass Lake, Sandstone & more) – all of which Bonnie had fond memories, growing up in a family of five girls!

In 1950, while working at the Mora Hospital, she met Howard Holmes, a local police officer. They married July 5, 1951 and together raised five children in the Coin/Brunswick communities. Bonnie was a hard-working, busy, loving stay-at-home Mom. In the early 1960’s she began working at the Braham Hospital. After that hospital closed, she went on to work at the Mora Hospital again, and later became a Home Health Aid with Kanabec County. After Howard’s retirement in 1976, together they became licensed foster parents and welcomed 2-year old LouAnn into their home for 3+ years and into their hearts forever. They also volunteered their time delivering meals.

Most of all, Bonnie took great pride in her family (deservedly so!) and enjoyed each and every minute spent with each and every one of them to the very end.

Bonnie was preceded in death by her husband of 61+ years, Howard (2013); by her son Clair (2007); and her four sisters: Florence Eaton, Eleanor Stollfus, Donna Whiteford and Carol Matthews-Murdock.

She is survived by and will truly be missed by her three sons: Harlan (Lucy) Holmes of Omaha, NE; Terry (Bonnie) Holmes of Mora; and Todd (Debi) Holmes of Mora: and by her daughter Heidi (Mark) McGregor of Rosemount, MN; her daughter-in-law Lori Holmes of Independence, MO; and 15 grandchildren: Ryan, Katie, Erick, Jocelyn, Jordan, Helen, Dustin, Melissa, Jake, Betsy, Ashley, Colin, Annie, Maureen & Hannah; and by 18 (soon-to-be 19!) great-grandchildren: Logan, Mia, Dylan, Hayleigh, Eyan, Brayden, Arica, Sierra, Dalton, Riley, Emma, Kaiden, Dominic, Sophia, Julia, Lacey, Julian, Maddox and Baby V.  She is also survived by and mourned by numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

So sorry for the loss of Bonnie, I have known Bonnie for so many years and loved her laugh and how she cared for everyone around her. She was a terrific mom and it shows by the wonderful children she raised and such a caring wife to Howard. I always enjoyed talking to Bonnie, she always wanted an update on family, she was truly one of a kind. I would guess by now she already has coffee poured for her and Howard and they are catching up on time passed. My prayers and hugs to everyone at this difficult time.

I was so sorry to hear about Bonnie’s passing. I just read about it now (9/11) and would have been there with you if I could. She was so nice and loving and always was smiling so big. She definitely will be missed by a lot of people. Please know that we will be thinking of your family at this time. Take comfort that she and your dad are together again and will be visiting with my folks now.
