M. Horne webMildred Horne, of Mora, died on Monday, May 19, 2014 at the Prarie Senior Living Cottages in Isanti, MN.  She was 100 years old.

FUNERAL SERVICE will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 23rd at Hillman Baptist Church in rural Mora.

VISITATION will be held one hour prior to the service on Friday at the church.

INTERMENT will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Mora.

Mildred Alice Horne passed away on May 19, 2014 at Prairie Senior Cottages of Isanti.

Millie was born October 24, 1913 in Clear Lake, Iowa to Oliver Lance and Elizabeth Dalbey. Soon after, they moved to Hillman Township (rural Mora). She attended country school but was never able to finish high school. She eventually moved to Minneapolis and enrolled at Minnehaha Academy to finish high school and receive a high school diploma.

In 1950, she married Robert Horne and to that union a daughter was born. They lived on the farm in rural Mora until Bob passed away in 1990 at which time Millie sold the farm and moved to Woodcrest Manor senior apartments in Mora. Two years ago due to failing health, she moved to Prairie Senior Cottages in Isanti until her death.

Millie worked at the Kanabec County Hospital for many years, mainly in the maternity ward. She loved caring for mothers and babies.

The family was very active at Hillman Baptist Church.

Millie loved family and was a “second mom” to many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Robert ,her parents, six brothers, one sister and son-in-law Dwight Vaala.

Millie is survived by daughter Jeanne Vaala, grandchildren Jonathan (Emily) Vaala, Julie (Dillion) McMullen, one brother Rev. Clyde (Alice) Dalbey, and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held on Friday, May 23, 2014 at Hillman Baptist Church in rural Mora with Rev. Randy Strom and Jonathan Vaala officiating.  Music was provided by Renae Allard and Sherry Strom.  Pallbearers were Steve Hallstrom, Scott Hallstrom, Kevin Hallstrom, Doug Hallstrom, Terry Dalbey and Dillion McMullen.  Interment was at the Oakwood Cemetery in Mora.

    All of the residents at Woodcrest Manor Senior Apartments want to express their heartfelt sympathy to Millie’s family. You are in our thoughts and prayers as Millie was favorite person of many of the other residents at Woodcrest Manor. People loved her wit and special sense of humor.

    Dear Jeanie, don’t know if you will remember me at all, but bless your Mom, she was my Son Jon’s foster Mom for awhile back in ’64……I was an LPN working at the KCH and took such wonderful loving care of him, strange world, we found out many years later that his wife, Deb’s Son, Joseph was also in your Mom’s care. Your Mom and Dad attended Jon and Debs wedding in 1990 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Brunswick, They have a son Jon JR> 24years old, living in St.Cloud,.. I’m Living in Oregon 6months and in San Francisco,CA. for 6months..have a wonderful husband…my Mom will celebrate her 98th BD June 12th..Just wanted to send my very sincere sympathies……..Take care, Dee Larocca (Son was Jon Fridstrom at that time…His father adopted him a few years later and I lived in CA. for years,his father passed away several years ago) His name now is Larocca

    So sorry for your loss Jeanne, your mom and dad was very special to me. I was the one that mowed
    the lawn on the old farm place. I drive up there to see your home place and our home place we lived
    below the hill, the farm place it really change its sad. I try to find your mom in the phone book.
